  • You missed the ladies drinks in Westminster where Jayloo painted nails and we got all excited about a small puppy ...

I would welcome bike beauty for starters - 'how not to inadvertently wipe bike grease all over your face during a long ride with no access to mirrors' being number one

  • Explain in simple FUN, AMAZING and NOVELTY terms...with a 17t you found the pedals easier to turn, right?

    Er, I'm so sorry.

In simple FUN, AMAZING and NOVELTY terms I now find it easier to turn the pedals with a 17t.

I might try a 18t in the Autumn for the hell of it though :-0)

And yes, I would like tips on how to stay sweat free whilst giving it loads on the bike, aka how do I stay cool whilst turning the wheels as fast as I can with my little legs!

  • Ooh, suitable nail varnish colours and matching lipstick would be useful too.

We don't mention that weekend. I missed a whole world of fun that weekend harumph

I would like some tips on how to get chain grease and assorted ming out of carpets and the sofa...or rather my housemate would!

  • I've got some rather large grease marks on the hallway and living room carpets. Must get them removed before the year's end :-).

  • 39x16 works for me (66 GI).

Ahhh no wonder you can get away with sneaks & egg beaters!!

  • Regarding bike grease in non-bike places, we've had great success with this (using a baby wipe as the rubbing device to go with it):

  • Thanks for the top tip BMMF.

Ace. We've gone from gear ratios to discussing make up and cleaning products ; )

  • Keepin' it real.

  • Surely 17 would make more sense in that dilemma, no? I dunno, I have no idea what I'm talking about.

I might go back to 48x16 this morning (after a couple of years on 48x18). Just for fun. And then do an afterworker, just to see.

edit: I did this and it was AMAZING. I recommend changing to anything just for the novelty value.

OK the morning was amazing, the afterworker has broken me.

  • 51x19

  • 47x17

  • you lot all scare me, i have a more girlie gear ratio at 64 inches

  • Granny legs

  • Changing to 46/18 this evening. My knees will thank me :-).

  • Right...am finally pulling my finger out and time to experiment with gearing. Am going to buy a couple of cheapish cogs today after doing better than usual but still failing on hills on sat.

I'm currently on 42:16, so thinking going for 18 on the back...that will make things spinnier on the flat right but hopefully get a few more turns in on hills, right? Also, dozy question but do I need a different lock ring for each cog?

Brace yourself for posts crying about not being able to use a chain whip later ; )

  • 17! go for 17, 18 is way too big a jump!

  • Noted!

  • you can use the same lock ring for the same hub (and most hubs, in fact. I think only Miche hubs have different size threads) If you want to have a flip flop wheel then it might be best to have 2 lock rings
42:18 is ace for climbing, but I wouldnt like descending on it =P

  • Miche and Phil Wood from the top of my head used french/italian threading.

the rest is British, just get a good one rather than a cheap one like a Dura Ace one, I rounded a cheap one and took forever to removed it due to it's being made of your finest quality Laughing Cow.

  • I bought a Harry Quinn 58cm frame over the weekend. Can't wait to start building it. My first build. This page has been really informative. Will be picking your brains once the new Pony is delivered.

  • I was going to get one from Condor, an own brand one and see how I get on...you reckon I should just cut out the middle man (cog) and go straight for a higher spec?

  • The Condor will be more than enough, used to run it before, and it work exactly as it said on the tin.

To be honest, I can't really notice any difference between the condor and others, just chainline issue with the BB is all I worry about (totally different subject in no relation to the quality of the cog).

  • Poots I've got a Shimano 17t you can have for a pint of Guinness, if that's any good?

  • Aww, thanks CW! Bought a Condor 17t today though, along with a chain whip...just need to work out what I'm doing with them!
