  • Ah indeed. Learn something new everyday. Seen James comment below so lets hope that's the end of it and everyone can just move on.
One unfortunate event shouldn't tarnish someone quite so much, and I feel bad for others having been drawn in for past events

  • No Paypal transaction here I'm afraid.

    (head in hands) oh dear...

It might be a ball ache but it better than relying on a 'stranger' to do the decent thing IMO.

    @Richard1982 Paypal, always paypal Please.

  • Do people bring up CLP because they know he has a propensity to feed their insatiable desire for drama? Stop it, you should all know better.

  • Not everyone can afford netflix

  • @James. has messaged me and said he'll pay me when he gets paid at the end of the month.

So it's all been resolved and @James. should be commended for fixing the situation.

  • Excellent, a happy ending, well done James.

  • Everyone loves a happy ending.

    yes.

  • Bearing in mind that James didn't pay the £10 for overcharged shipping he previously agreed to, I'll reserve judgement until Richard has got his money back.

NB There's no point trying to @ "James.", it tags another user (even if you select the correct one from the dropdown menu): probably because of the full stop.

  • Once you've got the money in your account the situation will be fixed.

It's only the 4th of the month now !

  • @The_Mechanic
has sold me Look Keo 2 Max pedals with completely fucked bearings- they were spinning fine when i ve checked them on the spot, but when i've taken a closer look at them at home - i've noticed that the whole pedal assembly was lose, once tightened the bearings didn't spin at all. have taken them to the LBS and was told that the axle needs to be replaced.

  • Hmm, it looks like their only here to sell stuff which is never a good sign, IMO.

Have you messaged them directly ?

  • @tmag is the guy from Bristol i've bought Mielec bike from couple of years ago.
spent +£40 on petrol to get to bristol, the bike came with no pedals, so couldn't ride it on the spot, everything seemed fine. When i've put cranks in it turned out that the bb thread(on both bb and frame) was fucked (there was no grease whatsoever inside the bb thread) and was creaking like fuck. The guy has refused to take it back and give me the money back, said it was fine with him. Said all he could do is to refund the new bb. Ideally i wanted to return the frame, but as i have just invested so much i've decided to repair it and keep it. So i had the frame professionally repaired and new bb fitted, fortunately my mates at lmnh made me a huge discount. Later i've sent him my bank details so that i could get at least some money back. Haven't received any refund from him.

  • Can someone send me a link to where you can get a £200-450 wheel posted for £15 with insurance please?

  • Reading between the lines, I think your point is that James. didn't overcharge for shipping once you take into account the increased cost of adequately insuring the wheel.

Any insurance would be for the benefit of the James. and not Richard1982, so the cost should be borne by James. and not Richard1982.

The same principal applies to Paypal transactions "on here".

The difference between a fee free "gift" payment and one via "goods & services" (which incurs a fee) is Buyer Protection and why the buyer is expected to pay the fee.

All this is quite apart from the fact that I'm quite confident that James. didn't buy increased insurance: if he had, he would have mentioned as much to justify the cost of shipping. He can easily prove me wrong with the receipt.

  • This falls down a little when something is also available for collection. It means you'd make less posting it than if someone picks it up. As this is supposed to be a London forum, charging the buyer for insurance doesn't seem unreasonable if they can't collect it themselves.

  • I've near sold a wheel, seams like way too much hassle to me. But I've bought a few, I've paid £5.00 for postage from Poland for one wheel and £10.00 for a pair of wheels from London to the south coast.

If someone asked me for £25 to post a wheel, I'd find another wheel.

  • I just posted a wheel, insured up to £250, for £11.50

  • @Scilly.Suffolk - Basically what scrabble said. I don't believe its fair to charge the buyer for the insurance if they cannot collect in person etc. especially if its worth a fair bit of money.

@HousecatHST - If someone asked me to pay £25 for insured postage on a disc wheel I would pay it (depending on the price of the wheel). Its all good sending some pony £60 spoked wheelset not insured and within the UK as its less likely to get damaged or even lost but what I am asking about is for large value items. Wheels, frames worth £300+

There have been countless stories of the content of boxes getting mashed up by parcel force etc and the seller having to refund the buyer and then not receiving compensation from the courier due to not paying for insurance in the beginning.

    @pifko - Where? Thanks in advance :-)

  • MyHermes (I know!) - But I've never had any issues with them.

  • I agree that you may make less from a sale if you have to ship it, so sell it local if you can. But if you can't, you need to consider the added costs and if you don't want to take the hit, then don't sell.

No-one can collect from me, but if I try and charge extra for that I don't sell anything.

If you agree to deliver something you've sold and you delegate that responsibility to a third party, that's your choice and your responsibility.

It's not reasonable to expect someone to pay for insurance which doesn't cover them: if something is lost in transit, only the sender (not the recipient) has a claim against whoever was shipping it.

Paypal's Buyer Protection (or credit card chargeback etc) covers the buyer and they are expected to pay for it. Shipping insurance covers the seller and I can't see how it can be argued that they shouldn't pay for it.

But that's all academic: James. charged above the flat rate but didn't buy the insurance, so whichever way you cut it he's a cunt.

  • Pure and utter petulance from some of you on here, constantly bringing @PHRESHSLAYTE's name in to disrepute, please stop and grow up.

  • TBH it's worth it just to see some of the wonderful things you young folk can do with grammar these days.

When I were a lad etc etc...

    ^for you sir.
I put my hands up my grammar is atrocious, probably because i spent most of my school years getting high when i should have been in class.

  • How do you put your hands up your grammar, or is it a typo and you are talking about fisting a grandparent?
