  • I raised my complaints with @croft via PM on Sunday afternoon: he hasn't replied despite posting on the forum, so he can exercise his right to reply here.

To be clear, I received what I paid for and in good order. My grievance is that he took seven days after I paid (4th December) to post it, didn't let me know what was happening, ignored my repeated requests for dispatch details and lied.

In response to my second enquiry and request for a tracking number he replied on 10th December:
"Hey. Odd that they've not arrived. Not sure signed for comes with a tracking ref? That would be tracked surely. I'll dig out the receipt."

I sent him a link to to the Royal Mail page confirming that Signed For was tracked and where on the receipt to find the reference. I got no reply to that nor my third request on 11th December.

On the 12th I got a "while you were out" card from the postie and collected the package on 13th. Both the "stamp" and tracking (use the "Full tracking details" button) confirm this was posted on 11th.

Or the day after he was so puzzled it hadn't yet arrived...

All he had to do was explain he was busy and ask if I minded the delay. Instead of which he ignored me and lied to me.

The irony of him bleating about not receiving what he had paid for, isn't lost on me.

  • A word to the wise, don't do business with @JM, especially if it involves posting an item. I paid him £410 for a frame and postage costs on the 22nd November, and finally got a refund off paypal yesterday (13th Jan).
Absolute scumbag, still haven’t heard a peep from him since mid dec (already at least 3 or 4 weeks since i transferred the cash at this point) at which point he apologised for not sending it claiming he had been very busy and promised he would send it the next day. I gave him every chance to do the right thing, different options etc and still no reply, finally raised a dispute with paypal hoping to prompt him into action and still nothing, so escalated it to a dispute and still nothing, so in the end paypal closed it in my favour when he didn’t even respond to them either.
So keep your eyes out and don't do business with him, or if you do make sure its in person!
Goes by @JM on the forum, real name Joel McAllister! And if he finally pipes up and starts bitching for being on this list then I'll happily post all our correspondence (well mainly mine as I heard chuck all from him) for a peer review!
Absolute shame as i’ve only been on the forum for a few months and think it's an amazing source of info and obviously has a thriving market place but I will definitely think long and hard before buying anything off here again.

  • I feel your pain Scilly.Suffolk. I bought a wheel last week and paid £25 for postage. We ship stuff like this all the time at work and for £25 could easily send it next day delivery. It was apparently dispatched on last Saturday. I text/called the person I bought it from only to get no answer then eventually a text saying that it wasn't his phone - it had been borrowed so he could talk to me to make the original sale :-/
It hasn't been too long, but just some more communication would have made the situation a lot better. As time goes on I'm becoming increasingly worried that this wheel will never turn up :( That said I think the seller is a regular poster, so it probably is just a communication problem.

  • £25 to post a wheel? That's shit

  • Poor show, but at least you didn't "gift" the payment...

  • communication

Zactly: so easy to keep things on track and save a lot of ill-feeling.

  • I didn't have paypal so I send a bank transfer. Why do I get the feeling I've been swizzled here... lol

  • at least you didn't "gift" the payment...

Yeah that would of been a complete slap in the face.
The upside is i can now carry on frame hunting!
@Richard1982 good luck, hope all works out for ya!

  • FYI if you click on a username, it will take you to their profile page which shows how long they have been a member and the number of posts they've made.

It's not infallible, but someone who's been "on here" for some years with a high post count is more likely to come through, than someone who only pops-up once in a blue moon.

Either way, you already know the most important thing: ALWAYS USE PAPYPAL WITH BUYER PROTECTION (it's now contrary to forum rules to trade otherwise and anyone demanding other forms of payment will be banned).

  • So the seller is a regular on here, so it seems legit. I heard from the seller - he sent me a tracking code. However no details of which company he used and it's invalid on every courier website I've tried. Very frustrating! Bit disappointed about the price as well to be honest. While browsing about 20 different courier websites I had a quick search to see how much p&p should have been, I managed to find it for £9.59 inc. VAT for next day delivery and the parcel is collected - for a 2kg wheel box. Maybe the box he's sent it in will be phenomenal ! ;-)

It's my own fault for buying on-line and stuff so I can't really complain. These are the risks you take!

  • I bought a Thomson stem and seatpost from @milkyway

    http://www.lfgss.com/conversations/278514/

Described as 'very good condition' and seller apologised for items being 'a bit dirty' in the photos.

Turns out most of the 'dirt' marks were scratches (hard to tell from the photos) plus the seatpost has a big scratch/gouge not shown in any of the pics. Stem also has blue paint splattered all over it (so far proving resistent to cleaning off with solvents).

Emailed milkyway over a week ago to point out neither item was 'very good condition' and asked for a partial refund to reflect condition. Had no response.

Price was pretty fair (if they'd been in good nick) and they're on the bike now so I won't bother with paypal dispute but thought it worthwhile to warn others.

  • That´s actually a really annoying situation, not fucked enough to warrant the potential hassle but enough for it irk and frustrate.

  • Slightly OT but I sent two Synths out via eBay selling and my two Bass Stations where both returned and told where broken on arrival, what I got back each time on the two where the same model but alas different serial numbers! Couldn't do Arse about it, what a complete knock! Should have taken photos of serial panel code but even this I doubt would have helped me resolve this as there are some wicked scum bags out there! My loss was about £350 in total. I have now been warned that people will "harvest" parts from vintage electronics, not good :-(

Bike related I've had a few knocks as well, someone sent me a beat up wheel once and "disappeared" couldn't send it back, he lived in London so I popped round, someone answered the door and I told him "Are you this person?" He replied "He's not here, can I help you?" So "Here please give this to so and so I've been sold the wheel and it's not as described, please take it back" I got on bike and cycled off, didn't worry about it for much but rattled me that I had been sold something listed as near new that was fudged, this was before I understood PayPal of course! Tisk tisk

  • Yeah the description of "very good condition" is a bit bollocks. Having said that, you can see the stem is scratched and and marked up in his photos. Hard to tell with the seatpost.

  • I'm still waiting for my wheel. The seller is adamant the tracking code is valid, but won't elaborate on which company its for (it's not valid on any courier I can think of) or when the wheel might turn up :-P If he'd just at least give me the tracking details I'd be happy, but the fact it's all vague and up in the air so I can't even start looking for an alternative is very frustrating.

Anyone recognise where this code might be from? No companies seem to use this format.

  • That's crazy! Some very underhanded people around sadly :(

On a more positive note, your post got me thinking about my keytar languishing in the cupboard - think I'll get it out later for a bit of Jan Hammer style action :D

  • I think there are some dodgy people around synths on ebay - I had to go halves on the repair of a previously perfectly working rack unit once.

  • Looks like Royal Mail

  • Yeah I thought that but the number of digits is wrong. It's so flipping annoying. I just found a website that lets you enter a code and I'll search all the delivery companies - it says the code isn't in a recognised format - maybe he mistyped it. Although that doesn't explain his reluctance to tell me who the carrier is or what the code should be.

If it hasn't come by the end of the week (a couple of weeks he's had then) I guess I'll have to assume it's not turning up.

  • "Chancers" that's one word for them!

  • I would second this, I bought a wheel from @milkyway just before christmas. It had been photoed 'strategically' perhaps, to hide the damage to the threads of the lockring thread of the hub and had also had the freewheel, tire and inner tube removed which it was pictured with (wasn't massively bother by this, but you should be clear what you selling and removing) I was bothered about the damaged threads.

Contacted @milkyway and agreed a lock ring and sprocket in view of the damage. and then nothing. I've been on holiday for the last ten days and hoped it might have turned up in that time but nothing.

I wasn't going to bother saying anything but seeing as you've had the same, ish problem I think it should be said.

edit to add link to the sale thread.

  • @milkyway sounds like a grade A cunt.

  • Ban hammer for @milkyway surely.

@Richard1982 sounds like it's time to name and shame as well!

The whole point of this thread is to warn people off shady traders on this forum, and your whole business sounds very shady as well!
