  • I have started a dispute now. He seems legit enough. He has been a member since april and I have seen him communicate with others on here. He is in Ipswich supposedly. I hope he comes around and turns out to be a nice fella..

  • Fingers crossed... like I said it seems far out to screw up your reputation for some forks.

  • I was in touch with him quite recently and he mentioned, in passing, that he had recently moved to Colchester.

He was asking my advice about a suspected stolen bike he'd been offered and whether he should contact the Police.

I can't vouch for him, never had any dealings with him beyond forum chit-chat.

Either way, raise a dispute with Paypal: you've paid for Buyer Protection, so use it.

At least we're not reading another Paypal Gift tale of woe; why the fuck people gamble with pounds for the price of pennies really is beyond me.

The thread appears to be closed, not sure why. He has a bunch of for sale threads with items marked as sold - hopefully he has some explanation for going AWOL and will come good eventually - £40+ doesn't seem worth ruining your internet reputation for...

  • Charlie has got in touch with me and is hopefully now dealing with these problems and posting the forks I bought. If he sends them through I will update this thread, and he can hopefully explain whatever caused the delay and work things out with Hulsroy.

  • Excellent news... Happy days!

  • Charlie has also contacted me. He says the forks are lost in the mail and there is nothing he can do about it. I do not trust him. I never got a TT number an tells he wasn't given any when he shipped it. He should have informed me about this before I payed and feel the fault is his. I will wait until t.o. comes back with news to decide my further actions. But I feel that I should get my money back no matter what, as his sale has been rather dodgy and caused me all kinds of trouble. But I want to do it by the book as I wish to stay here on lfgss. What do you think?

  • You are due a refund: it's up to the seller to claim compensation from the carrier.

File a PP claim if you haven't already.

  • This... :(

  • Thanks I am glad you agree. I have a dispute going on paypal. Charlie must do the claim for a refund himself. I refuse to spend more time on this. I just want some bloddy forks so I can go riding.

  • Sounds like a bullshit merchant. Get escalating those claims.

  • nope. Mine were Look HSC

  • Apparently my forks have been delivered to my office, I'm off work sick & not been able to pick them up. I will update when I actually have them. Charlie has been in good communication over the last few days, he is not a great trader but he has made amends by upgrading my purchase (originally Zeus, should now have the dedas). Given that hulsroy's have gone missing and Charlie went awol for 2+ weeks I still can't recommend him to trade with though....

  • I am glad you got your forks. Hoping I will get my money back soon.

  • I bought a Tandem from Charlie, it arrived fine. He was awkward and stroppy to deal with but no problem with the end result.

  • Got them fine & they're good. Apart from going awol Charlie came good in the end. I wouldn't rule out trading with him in future but he'd have to have something I really really wanted!

  • Busted!

The NDS cup and lockring are aligned in exactly the same position and a search of both completed and sold Ebay listings turns nothing up.

Double or quits? Er... quits it seems.

  • Blatant profiteering, although not strictly against rules still poor form to buy something for £200 and double your money....

The gumtree listing is Reading, Bec is in W Hampstead ... Doesn't take a genius.

  • You don't have to break the rules to be a bad trader...

As recently and repeatedly discussed, this is a free marketplace but one that is also self-policing and dodgy practices will be called out. That said he's well within his rights to continue the sale, but all the info is there to help the buyer. Ofc if proven that's not the same frame or a different purchase then fair enough.

  • Anyone used madgetts cycles before?

  • Sorry that was probably the wrong place to post

  • I bought my wife's bike from Bec.
She is an honest and decent seller, and a thorough and meticulous bike builder.

Obvs I can't vouch for the provinance of this frame but it doesn't sound like the Bec that I spent a week emailing and a good few hours chatting and tweaking bikes with before we settled up.
