So the front is more worn than the rear, at what point does the rim need to be replaced?

Get a vernier caliper between the steel rule, and the rim, then compare that measurement to the wall thickness. Though even visually speaking, they haven't got much life left imho.

Ready for the bin, both of them. Or you could use them on rollers. Oh wait...

imagine this:
you buy a pair of wheels on ebay. you pay, you receive an item. you leave feedback. you use them a few times. time goes by. month, two... four months. then you need some cash and/or just don't need them anymore. so you decide to sell them. buyers comes up. checks out the wheels. points you to obvious fault of the wheel. one or two faults. the ones you haven't even noticed before and most probably would never notice until someone else looked at them...
what do you do? no, seriously, what?
of course, this here is not ebay. however...
-
• #1507
how? on ebay that is
-
• #1508
that's the point though, it's not ebay. I always thought it was generally a little less cold hearted here. If I was in Dammits position I think I would seek some sort of compromise with the seller. I guess it's down to the seller though really. I know if I had read through this I wouldn't be rushing to buy anything from skylark...
Dammit that's what my rims looked like after more than 2000 hilly & wet (very braking intensive) miles...
What do you want from this, or is it like you said you expect nothing and just wanted people to be aware of what has transpired? If that's the case then fair enough really.

how is everyone on "buyer's" side? 4 months, come on!
also, taking it out to the public? not wanting to solve in the PMs? the idea to take the wheels to mechanic to check out only came up after a page of flaming. i'm sure this speaks more of being process- rather than result-oriented innit? -
• #1510
This is not eBay, it's not Amazon, it's not an online marketplace.
Buyer was silly for accepting something form a person he doesn't know without checking it (especially after other people commented on the wheels, that they looked fucked - before the sale).
The seller himself comes across as a bit of a tit. Doesn't want accept any responsibility and gets himself into an online battle on many fronts.
Skylark is a cunt, I personally don;t want his merchandise nor need to read his posts.

No one comes out of this looking good. Because we know and like Dammit he's had a relatively easy ride - not only selling on wheels that were not as he described them/not checking them before selling them but doing so at a mark up. Most people doing that on here would be flamed to a cinder and their apologies and explanations dismissed out of hand.
And Skylark has some good points to make but makes them in a way that puts people's backs up. His disdain for the forum doesn't sit well with his willingness to use it as a market place. The rims as shown in Dammit's photos certainly don't seem to warrant Skylark's description of them as being in good condition.
I would buy from Dammit. Not sure about Skylark. Overall this thread has proved its worth. -

This is total nonsense! Dammit is a grown man who knows a lot about bikes. Those rims look shagged, agreed.
4 months ago he bought the wheels and would have been completely within his rights to not buy them because the rims where knackered (which is exactly what Harry did yesterday) but there is no way that he can place this back on Skylark. He made a bad decision to buy them, tried to rip someone else off by selling them on here again for more than he sold them for.
In fact he claimed in his ad :
I'll post pictures in a few hours, for the meantime imagine the most awesome pair of wheels ever- they look just like that.
With my Cabron wheels turning up soon I will soon have to many, which is the only reason for selling these, otherwise I'd keep them.
So what happened in the 2 days between posting them for sale in seemingly amazing condition and yesterday when the rims where 'discovered' to be knackered. Just because he is a forum world champ or whatever the fuck does not let him get away with trying to rip people off and should not allow you lot to give skylark a hard time.
In his defence he posted earlier in this thread that he was in the wrong and admitted his mistakes so the rest of you step the fuck off.

Dammit your an idiot. reported.
But, having just seen the wheels in the flesh, I personally wouldn't have those leave the workshop.
That's a serious accident waiting to happen, those rims will be put in the bin... & should have been long before Dammit bought them.

Front:
Rear:That is extremely worn out, and extremely dangerous to ride, the rims could've split anytime at that point.
Used condition my arse, that's unrideable.

should have done this before you paid. sucks that this happened to you but I guess it's a learning experience. thanks for the heads up about the seller but I doubt you will get the money back after all this time.
I like how the value of the wheels gained £20 in 4 months. ;)So the front is more worn than the rear, at what point does the rim need to be replaced?

Have said all I can from my side.
If he genuinely didn't know, well that is embarrassing for him but he should at least have the integrity to stand up and admit his mistakes, like Dammit did. I don't really even have a problem if he still insists that the wheels were good when he sold them, that is a matter between him and Dammit. What I object to is the fact that he slags off the forum and its members then runs and hides and still continues to post, if he has such a big problem with the people who regularly post here why doesn't he just cancel his account........ Oh wait he wants to trade in the classifieds and not donate.
Who's slagging off who? Consider that carefully. I've already said I have no qualms with people who talk and interact with me in a reasonable way. I've no axe to grind coming from the outside with a totally unbiased perspective.
However what I've seen is the forum is overrun by a majority of a few people, who've also posted here incidentally, who seem to have a self-righteous, uncivilised demeanor. It does not imply a dime that that's the sub-par standard the rest of us must adhere to. Sorry to say this but peoples' reputations on here means very little. Positive reputations should be conducive of an appropriate behaviour. If you're a WC then act like one.
Example:
Dammit has abused his reputation by trying to use it as the sole way of getting his way. Short of that, a shambled and completely mixed bag of arguments and reasons regarding his transaction which is devoid of any logic or sense. Yet the mob follows Dammit.
Learn to think for yourselves people!
The rims as shown in Dammit's photos certainly don't seem to warrant Skylark's description of them as being in good condition.
You've confused the description of another ad. Besides, mobile photo.. alright.

I'm not sure, you see. He asks liars of questions recently.
Anyway, keep this thread updated, so people can be warned of crap wheels.

@ skylark
I've seen and read both bad and civilised forums. LFGSS is amongst the worst I've come across.
The fact it's online people think they can behave as they like. Hiding behind their PC as their safety net. It's not too unlike those rowdy holiday makers who go abroad and stink up places with their appalling behaviour.
Online forums should be no exception. People should conduct themselves in a manner which is conducive to their "normal" behaviour. Wishfully thinking? Maybe. On the other hand the dumbest thug responsible for foul behaviour wouldn't have a clue how to participate in an online forum.
You said this two days ago this would be the first example of what I was talking about, I have yet to decide if I can be bothered finding more. Have you been to any rides or beers? I have, and while I have not met Dammit or Eel yet (at least I don't think so) I generally find that people behave in pretty much the same way in person as they do on the forum. Personally I find it funny, but then I read the forum before I joined, I therefore knew what I was getting into, maybe you should have done the same? Or is it more of a case that you had a little giggle when you saw other people being called cunts and couldn't take it when it was directed at you? I only suggest this as you strike me as being that kind of petty imbecile.
As far as your comment regarding a few individuals effectively dominating the forum, this is a community, and as such it is natural for some people's opinions to carry more weight than others this will always be the case, I suggest that you grow up and learn to deal with it. Are you really so naive that you expect to join an existing community and mould it to your outlook? As I said in my post I don't really give a shit about the wheels this is a matter for you and Dammit.
I noticed that you skirted round the issue of you trading and not donating to the forum instead using diversion tactics to have a go at Dammit, but by my count you have had 13 for sale threads on the forum yet have not donated a penny. This as far as I am aware is pretty bad form, especially when you comment on other people donating to the forum when they have not been a member for long. Just to stop you before you bring this up no I have not donated to the forum yet, but then I have not sold anything here and will probably be making a donation on or around my next pay day.
Get a fucking sense of humour you knob
Whom.
