It goes frighteningly near where I grew up. More than a bit tempted to make a detour through Windsor Great Park :)

Won't be able to make the start as First train won't get me into London till 09:40 then have to get across town....but might do it and follow the route and who knows maybe catch you all up....will let you know well before the day what I plan to do.

Are you allowed to bump your own rides?
Anyways, just a quick nudge

doing clacton fixed on saturday...
i think i will bring some gears for this one so my knees still love me.
-
• #137
unless you do clacton on gears....

i know you wont want to change the route but last week on the m40 from aston hill towards london i saw five groups of red kites, the largest was 12 (just past aston hill) down to about half a dozen. the b482 marlow road to stokenchurch follows the motorway and would be ideal to spot them from. they don't appear until late morning though.

The route is basically south of the M40, there's millions of the fuckers!

Right, there's no trains from Iver on that date, engineering works so we'll go to ***West Drayton ***and cycle from there
Train times from PADDINGTON:
9.44am - 10.06am arrival
10.15am - 10.37am arrivalRoute:
http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/457653
36m from West Drayton to Watlington via Iver, Farnham Common, Hedsor, Cookham, Marlow then straight through. From here is prime Red Kite territory and this is where we'll hang out, get some snaps and go for a pint & pub lunch
I'v planned a route back from Watlington back down to Henley On Thames then across to Maidenhead and up through Burnham back to the route - a big loop effectively.
This loop all the way back to Farnham Common is around 62m then just carry on back to West Drayton for a train back(I'm sure some will just carry on back to London instead)
So in total the ride will be around 75/80mFo those of you who want to miss out the ride back there's an option riding from Watlington to Didcot Parkway to get the train back to Paddington.
It's 15m from Watlington - Didcot which'll make the ride from West Drayon to Didcot around 55m which might be more suitable for some, route:[ame]http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/459571[/ame
[/ame]
Trains back to Paddington are pretty frequent:
1.29 - 2.02 - 2.05 - 2.30 - 3.02 - 3.04
And take about 45/50mins via Reading

I'll probably ride there and back but see how I feel after a pub lunch and several Guinness, I may just fancy a ride down to Didcot for the train back
On the roadbike, yes

I think I'll meet you on the way into Cookham, I guess at the river would be as good a spot as any.

I live in Oxford so will get the train out to the start and then peel off and ride home from Watlington/Didcot. Probably going to do it fixed (though I haven't trained in almost 2 months so if I'm feeling fat I may resort to gears)
-
• #148
What time d'you reckon we'll be finishing? Ewan - the return train to West Drayton is only 5p more than a single today :D
-
• #149
I'm toying with the idea of riding down from Oxford to the start, then peeling off at Watlington to head back home. It's just over 40 miles to West Drayton. Any other Oxford folk fancy an early start?
