Yep, just seen a whole bunch of work going on at Wardour Street, bizarrely right into the street, narrowing it there considerably. I hope this means that they're starting to inpose width restrictions on Soho streets, I'm sick of seeing articulated lorries getting stuck in the soho lanes.

I cant help but think these things are going to get a kicking within a week, and the remnants strewn in the Thames.

aha, but that's why we have CCTV all over the place, as a deterrent to people ... not to show their faces whilst commiting such an act.

Weird.. had to go back to the main forum page and then come back to the thread for my links to appear... oh well they're there now. Use the first set of links - 10Mbit line instead of ADSL

You should get a kicking and your remnants should be thrown in to the Thames.

It's because your images are too large - they get replaced with links to save people having to download big pics.

I saw one of the hire bikes at the "cyclists' breakfast" thing at St Pauls a couple of weeks back. Can confirm that they weigh about the same as a battleship.

Come on guys, try to be a bit positive! Let's see what happens.
(I've also revised my position on the superhighways, they're not perfect but it is just the beginning). -

These things won't last until Christmas.
I am waiting for them to put some up on my commute, near Shoreditch Park. Be interesting to document their fate over the following months -

I've ridden the ones in Avignon. They weigh an absolute ton but the cool thing about them is that they are shaft driven unlike the Paris ones so there's no chain.

What I am worried about is a child getting its head stuck in one of those stands. Or a tourist. Can't happen? I was on the Hindenburg and I know what I am talking about.

I used the bikes in Brussels. Heavy, slow, some were damaged with poor brakes etc (although braking got a lot better once I realised the brakes are the opposite way round!).
Still, after a day I actually found them quite useful - I was there for a conference and they were a convenient way to get between the hotel, conference and beer.
I think roads in London are a bit more squished though and if it means a glut of inexperienced cyclists everywhere I'm sure we will see a rise in injuries or even fatalities - a rather brutal way to make the point for cycling improvements.
One thing I was considering is to get a group from the office to go out for lunch in places that can't be walked to in a lunch hour. -

I am concerned about the possibility that solo hoodlums now have a mounting point for the other end of their garotte wires when targetting old ladies.
Excellent news, everyone.
