  • did someone think it was a bike stand and try to force their MTB in?

  • Looks like it was hit by a car, maybe a truck or a fat human.

  • Late return charge £150?????

    Fuck off

  • Whilst waiting for a bus on Waterloo Bridge this morning I saw 4 different people cycle by on them in a ten minute period. (One was even wobbling about more than me).
Surely a good thing? (And it was also interesting watching the buses v cyclists, all seemed to be behaving appropriately).

nice to see a great initiative getting half ruined by the usual UK fees and charges.

Damage charge? How can they tell it was me when it's parked on the street?

  • £300 damage charge is taking the mickey.

  • The charges put me right off you put bike back some little cunt kicks the wheels in you get charged.

Some dickhead driver decides to drive into the back of you get charged etc etc etc

I would maybe have used them for days when left my bike at home because going out for more beers than it would be sensible riding home after. It would be good way of getting there without using the tube etc

Aero wing bars, bayonette steerer, deep section down tube - looks like an ideal steed for time trials

"If you're a visitor to the UK, remember to cycle on the left"

But if you're a native, feel free to veer all over the road like all the other natives?

  • I've got an idea for a ride.
    Its a milage challenge-
See how far you can get in 30mins.
You must return the bike to a station to qualify.
mileage done by some means of devilry.

  • I'm a little worried about the seat clamp. After all the effort that seems to have gone into making everything else bomb proof, it looks like a standard QR clamp, and it's well known that "the general public" are incapable of operating a QR properly. I hope there is some kind of tether to prevent over extension, or complete removal of the seat post. Some kind of gas strut like an office chair (e.g. KS i900) would seem to be a better plan, everybody knows how to work those.

  • I hope there is some kind of tether to prevent over extension, or complete removal of the seat post.

There completely is. One of the first things I did to one of these last year at the bike show was try to pull the post out. The whole bike is all pretty well thought of and designed to be tamper proof.

  • I thought peoples got paid to advertise sh!t. Riding a bike with Barclays Bank on it...

  • You're getting paid £15-£40 per day per bike, as long as you never rack up any hourly charges, to advertise Barclays rather than advertising gopedal.co.uk

  • Some of us have been using our mad potatochop skillz more productively

  • Stands were getting loaded up with bikes this afternoon, accompanied but lots of puzzled looks from people trying to work out how to use them. At Gloucester Road, somebody had got as far as bungeeing their shopping to the front rack and was vaguely prodding buttons on the stand.

  • I have a key for these, which arrived yesterday. When the stand got loaded up with bikes this afternoon I went down to take one for a spin but the key wouldn't release the bike: the lights went amber then red. There was a TFL type polishing the monitor glass and I asked him when they would be working and he said "As soon as Boris has had his picture taken with them for the press tomorrow."

  • Hyde park has its racks filled now, with large groups of tourists working out how to get onto one,
    Hilarious.
Also, if the first half an hour is free, can you not just exchange bike just before you half an hour ends. Its an exploit that has been used on the dublin bike rental scheme for ages, surely they would have though of a way to stop it.

  • I think it's more to encourage using the bikes for short journeys

  • What?
I'm just outlining the fact that if you dont mind having to swap bikes every half an hour (which wouldnt be too hard since you're never too far from a cycle hire rack) you could tour the city all day for free.

that is the general idea. that very point was mentioned on the london news and it was seen as a positive thing.

  • At the Easts BBQ last night we were discussing the possibility of an alleycat
You get the bikes out at the start, the checkpoints are other hire bike racks, you have to check them in and out at each rack (better hope they are not all used!) and anyone who goes over the free 30 minutes in between racks is disqualified. Each stage would have a challenge, e.g a skid comp, polo, bunny hop comp.

It's probably a bad idea. Or an awesome one.

  • Just seen a whole load of bikes set up on bethnal green rd near rich mix, I would be worried if I was tasked with looking after those :/

Oh so youre saying that exploit* is known and is the general idea.

    *not really an expoliot
