  • I don't think wheel covers fall into the safety category. I like them, others don't. It's a matter of choice.

  • brake cable crimps should be mandatory also

they can really scratch your legs up

  • Rupert, your beard scratches me as you ride too close.

  • i guess I'd better crimp my beard as well then

  • Well played sir.

On the cable crimp note, short of having just fitted a cable at the court there's no excuse as it's a 2 second job and spare nipples can be used in place of cable ends.

  • ^ i never thought of this, good call emzo!

  • there's no excuse.

    Yup, safety AND aesthetics.

  • is anyone going to mention not having a brake? there's no excuse, they are readily available and can be found at very reasonable prices.

    pure lazyness

  • pure stubbornness

    .

I do think that they are part of safety. feet, pedals, mallets getting stuck/pulled round your wheels can be painful or dangerous.

  • once in my many many hours on polo courts have i got my foot stuck in someones spokes, it did hurt, but i'd say it was a 5/10 in polo pain.

I honestly don't think naked spokes are an issue. i dont think disc wheels can be compared to such a fundamental thing as a bar end.

    IMO

  • tbh i have never even heard of/considered disc wheels as a safety item. they have always been to protect the riders own wheels from the ball, not to protect other riders from their wheels.

  • riders who get their feet caught in wheels should learn how to ride better.

  • I laughed ^.

They also stop you conveniently slotting your mallet in between the spokes while moving. I learnt about that one the hard way, but still i think that comes under 'dont be a dumbass' rather than a reason to make them mandatory.

  • As far as I'm concerned the following is a must:

    • Plug yor bars
    • Plug the end of your mallet
    • Exposed chainrings must be covered/removed (if removed, the spider exposed arms can't stick out)
    • Mallet head shouldn't have a sharp/sticking bolts or bits of plastic
    • Cable ends should be crimped

    The other points are optional

  • Nail on the head, dt.

  • ha i like how cable ends being crimped has become a must.

i brought it up as a joke.

  • it's a good point though

  • i dont think crimping is important

  • Just naturally wavy...

  • anyone want any more vaguely amusing/racist crimping memes?

  • So remove the cable crimps?

    • Plug yor bars
    • Plug the end of your mallet
    • Exposed chainrings must be covered/removed (if removed, the exposed spider arms can't stick out)
    • Mallet head shouldn't have any sharp/sticking out bolts or bits of plastic
