Hi Arup,
How do you feel about taking on another pupil on May 8? I got flattened by a Ford Focus on Sunday and only my saddle and my Phil Wood hubs survived! Oh - and me. Is it too ambitious to attempt to build up with say 2 Mavic Open Pros (what is it, 36 hole...?), when you're a newbie (and a bit cack-handed)? Well, if you think it might work, I'm in! -

Cool, so we have 3 people confirmed for Sunday 8th at 3.00pm. Room for a couple more if you have your bits together.

See you guys later!

Guys I'm really sorry I didn't make it I'm sorry I didn't have a number to call you to let you know.
It was for a beautifully ironic reason. As I was coming through Bermondsey two twats cut each other up and slammed on their brakes. I had it covered until one of the idiot passengers jumped out of the car and I slammed into the door. I broke two spokes on my front wheel and bent a spoke on the wheel I had strapped to my back, the one I was going to use for the wheel building lesson!
It would be funnier if it didn't hurt so much. I scrubbed off most of my speed (thank god for dual pivot) but still was a heavy impact. Do keep my record of never having fallen off my bike. Don't keep my no accident record.
I'm a very friendly non-violent sort but I went absolutely mental. When you've got a 6'4" cyclist with a wheel strapped to his back going ape shit at you it wasn't that surprising that he agreed to reimburse me for the damage. So at least I got £30 in my pocket. Still wish it hadn't happened though.

Whoa, sorry to hear about the accident. I'll put my phone number in the thread for the next one.

My 2nd truing stand which was supposed to arrive in time for yesterday's session just turned up round lunchtime today. But it's all ready for the next one. Thinking about Sunday 5th of June for the next one for all those who wanted to come to this one but couldn't make it. If that's too soon then perhaps the 12th.

hi arup, please let me know if there's another one of these happening, sounds great!

^ Same here, posted a (now unnecessary) thread about it in fact.

Hey guys, finally got a date for the next one. Was going to be this Sunday but I'm going to be away. The one after is a bank holiday weekend and suspect that people will be away. Give it another week to get all your stuff together so I'm going for Sunday the 11th of September 3.00 - 7.00pm. More details on my site. But read back through this thread for more details.

Hi Arup. If these classes are anything like your video tutorials, then I'm certain they're well worth it and deserve a thumbs up. I followed your videos to the letter, sat in my dining room between the computer and the dining table(work bench) with my bike upside down (no truing stand), building my first wheel. Several miles now and still perfectly true. Thanks.

Wow, good to hear. I've used tutorials from YouTube so many times that I thought it was time to share the love and give something back. Glad to hear that they've been useful. Still haven't got around to doing the spoke length calculation ones. Perhaps I can film it during the next workshop.

very tempted
Good to hear that your wheels are still going strong. You've still got three weeks to decide so you've got time.
-
• #92
Just wrote a simple spoke length calculator app for my wheel site. Only does one side though.
-
• #93
Any plans for a class soonish? Fancy treating myself and a friend for christmas ;-p

If you've got hubs and rims and have a date in mind then just let me know. Sunday afternoon is usually best for me from 3.00 pm onwards.
-
• #95
I'm interested too...

I think that the garden option might be out now but I do have a spare room.
-
• #97
How about Sunday 23rd October? Will that give you enough time to get all your bits together?
-
• #98
Sadly, we already got plans on the 23rd - I'll see what sundays are free and post back

Got a date for the end of Jan 2012 on Sunday 29th from 3.00 - 7.00pm. Have one booking already. I imagine it will take place indoors as even with sunny weather it's too cold for the garden. You need to book it via my wheel site.

Sunday 26th Feb. Times as above. Two bookings so 2 spaces left.
Cool, let's do a list then. Only add your name if you're 100% confirmed. Wheel building workshop on Sunday 8th May with Arup from 3.00 - 7.00pm.
That's enough people for me to go ahead. I could take 2 more, 3 at a push. Might mean that you don't get quite as much individual attention.
