“I spent 4 years as a student in Sheffield” …..Sheffield is almost Derbyshire
-
• #4031
In terms of latitude Sheffield is only a few miles South of Liverpool.

I’ve never heard a true Yorkist say the ‘t’ as a separate word. It’s always added to the end of beginning of the adjacent word - whichever is the easier to say.

But what do they wear under their kilts?

I've never got people who put their seatbelt on either as they're pulling away, or shortly after.

They want to look like police in movies?

I've never got how quickly some people manage to drive off after getting in their car, but maybe this is why.

Not as fast as those driving off after getting in someone else’s car.

A mate used to do this. We'd come out of the pub after 5-a-side (he was never over the limit) and the car door would shut and 0.3 seconds later the engine had started and he was pulling away. No idea how he did as I was always cycling so never got a lift with him.
I'm like Mr Magoo when I get in a car, have to faff with seat position, mirror positions, seatbelt, check the fuel, etc. There's a good minute between the door closing and me pulling away.

Sit in car, let foot straight onto clutch, left hand checks the stick position then reaches for the belt while right hand turns the ignition. Go.

In addition to dropping the handbrake and selecting gear.
Here in the Midlands we have a lot of "I'm just going town" or "are you gonna go school"
Which as a language scholar I accept as fine but personally it boils my piss.
