Today's I don't get which verges on hate - tech companies asking me to create an 'avatar' for myself. Apple, Meta/Whatsapp and today Microsoft/Teams.

Perhaps if they had some more people playing some more instruments people would like them more. Bass and drums is a rhythm section, not a rock band.

Plenty of stuff goes missing from checked luggage. Wrapping it acts as a disincentive for the baggage handlers to mess with it, they'll go for the easier option that is only a few seconds to open, rummage, and then close up.
A friend also used to do it each time as their insurance company would cover the cost of the wrapping. (Probably for the same reasons as above.)
I never got why people put expensive stuff (iPads, cameras, etc) in checked luggage though.

I had a lightweight (read: brittle af) suitcase explode on me recently, large cracks and splinters all over the place. Wrapping would have been useful if it didn't cost so much.
I think it's for people who are too paranoid to trust a tiny padlock, maybe 🤷🏽

Padlocks are useless for cases with zips, you can just stick a pen in the zip at a random place to open it up and then drag the padlocked zips back/forth over the hole to close it back up again.

TSA master keys (which open all of the TSA approved locks/padlocks) are easily obtained (since the TSA put a photo of the master keys on their website): https://nakedsecurity.sophos.com/2015/09/11/tsa-master-luggage-keys-are-3d-printed-after-photo-published-online/

It was always strongly recommended for flying into Johannesburg.

I did not know this and had a laptop pinched at JHB many years ago.

Yes those tiny padlocks are useless, I'm aware

Seems plastic luggage wrap isn't going into room 101 but do suspect many are using it for vanity reasons, keep the LV scuff free.

Next up, having a bike and still driving short distances in London..
thinking about switching from my petrol car to an EV, as I just drive
around a 5-mile area in SE LDN. -

See also; moped riders who hover their feet about 7mm above the tarmac.
It's the moped equivalent of riding a bicycle no-handed and thinking you look cool as fuck. I imagine they feel really fucking stupid when the inevitable happens and their foot hits an object, shattering their ankle as it bends backwards at 30mph

I really doubt it.
I've only seen it wide spread in certain locations - Latin America and SA.
My OH had all her nice shampoo stolen in Lima, and her mobile stolen somewhere between Paraguay and EL Salvador. The phone was quite handy actually as it was ancient and the airline gave us a few hundred dollars which we splurged on a hotel stay in Panama City.
All locked bags. But as said a padlock is useless.

Re: cling filming your luggage. Why don't these people wrap it up at home, rather than spend a million pounds on the stuff at an airport?

Because they might have to open it for security?
The Sea are a very similar style of band, but didn't make it big.
Had a seething resentment of RB due to their success, whilst they floundered.
Fairly sure RB have never heard of them.
