Yeah, I'd try something else. If Evans only, BMC / Specialized / Trek all have a load of bikes in that price range. Partial to a BMC myself

Looks a good deal to me.....Tiagra won't be amazing but should do a job. Frame should be decent to build future upgrades around

Nothing wrong with Tiagra. Shifting isn't any better on the higher end mechanical groupsets, you're just paying for an extra sprocket/lighter weight/bling

Yes! I bought one to use when I'm in the UK. It's a great bike for the money. Planning to race crits on it in the summer (with race wheels on).

It's a really good frame and I'm amazed how nice the Tiagra felt. As good as Ultegra 6700 I'd say. Saddle and bar tape are the only let downs but I'm nitpicking.

The B Twin looks good value though.

Personally not a huge fan of the paint job though. Bright pink re-spray? or have I just been at work too long...

Tiagra 4700 is actually great.

Once it go down to Sora (R3000) you can actually feel the bigger difference (shift feel softer).

Is it me or this is a great deal?

I'm looking at buying my first geared road bike. Does anyone have any experience with the Giant Defy 2 Disc or the Cannondale Synapse Disc? Both have mechanical discs and a tiagra groupset, the Giant is a bit cheaper at £600 rather than £680 The idea of discs is appealing because it'll get used every day, whatever the weather, will I actually notice any improvement in braking in the wet over rim brakes? Also, is tiagra any good? Any other suggestions around the same price mark or general tips for choosing a road bike to use every day all year round?

In my experience with mechanical discs (TRP Spyres on a Giant TCX), no noticeable difference on braking compared to rim brakes. Mechanical discs are a bigger faff than rim brakes too, and bike went to two different bike shops to sort the brakes out in case of user error. Ended up selling the bike.

4700 Tiagra is fine as a groupset
Most bikes with alu frames/carbon forks/Tiagra 4700 will be all pretty similar. Main differentials will be rim/disc brake, and then things like rack/mudguard mounts and tyre clearance. These may or may not matter to you. Generally, get the one that looks the best.

Discs brakes are better in the wet than rim brakes. Spyres are no more difficult to set up than any other braking system. As with rim brakes, a true rim (disc rotor in the spyre case) improves braking, a good set of pads and clean surfaces. My spyres are a bit squealy at the moment, slightly warped discs and wet salty roads, but stopping power and modulation/lever feel is superior to rim brakes imo.
