28watt saving against what? A semi-trailer?
As ever the PR guff picks and chooses- the assumption (which you are left to make) from the article is versus a conventional road bike.
But- it could be a C of E Vicker on his way to Sunday mass on his pre-war sit-up and beg with wicker basket etc etc.

"When it came to wind tunnel testing, which BMC told us was extensive and involved some of the team riders, it performed well. With a 50kph frontal wind the TMR01 reduced drag by 21% compared to the TeamMachine SLR. That's a saving of 28 watts"
I think someone is playing silly buggers with maths here...
-

Quite probably- and it also doesn't really matter.
The reason I want to test the TMR01 back to back with my road bike is to see if I can tell the difference.

You ride with a power meter so you should know that even if it was 28W difference that it'd just be the difference between blowing up at 50min vs. 55min for 25mi. Since it's likely to be far less than 28W I doubt you'd be able to notice any aero benefit at all and by notice I mean feel, not tell at the end of a TT with a stop watch or measure in a tunnel.

It would be interesting to get the power meter on the BMC, not that that will happen.
One other thing I noticed actually which you've just reminded me of- the BMC is BB86, which has a noticeably detrimental affect on chainline when compared to BB30 when in the larger half of the cassette and in the big ring- obviously not a combination that a steely eyed racer would ever find themselves in etc etc.
-
• #4832
Depends. I expect all my gears to work and would often be all over the cassette in crits because little ring in flat races = no. Yeah, you heard, I cross-chain and I don't care.
-
• #4833
Dave the rave told me cross chaining is good for evening out chainring wear, I lol'd, then he gave me his serious face... and I lol'd again

BMC do 3, 18, and 30mm setback post options no?
-
• #4835
It's one post, the clamp can be moved backward and forward.
I'll experiment when they get a non-cracked 58 in stock.

I think it looks wicked. And for that reason nothing else matters.
Aero frames are all good. But I'd put position on the bike at a far high importance than an aero frame. But every little counts. And the fact is the frame looks sexy.

the bmc is beautiful by far the nicest bike in the peloton atm
-
• #4838
The ridley is pretty swift too.
Plus the Dogma ZX is beautiful. Curvy forks and all. -
• #4839
meh, I think the Racemachine SLR is much nicer

Oh swanky.
I'm fitting a mate onto a new Grandfondo frameset. So far it looks he needs a 3mm setback post, and a new top headset cap to slam-dat-stem. I think hes measured his old roadmachine wrong.

This. And the ability to drag my fat ass up a hill without twisting.

I've been reading about the Grandfondo GF01 for a friend, and looking at how to build it up. Going to be an amazing bike. So light, so comfy, and BMC reckon its stiff too.
The disc version is still most tempting though.

I think the Mrs might get one.

Standard. If 23s don't fit. I reckon it's a bad batch...
