  • You must not know much about Orbeas, then M.F

Pretty nice roadie bikes, and their TT bikes are SWEET.

I rode one for a number of years, it's a fantastic frameset and a very well rounded out ride.

  • Lucas mate, come back when you understand humour o.k?
let me break it down for you,
"self respecting snob" I am saying that with my tongue in cheek,
dont really care what people do, ride or otherwise, in the real world.ffs.

Yes and you know when I say "fuck off you nob", I don't always mean it .... but then again you think it funny telling my mate to scare the shit outta me on my bike when I have been ran over twice and been out of work for months because of said incidents and still have massive confidence problems descending ... sense of humour ... hmm.

  • Orbea's are fucking ugly though

  • Sometimes True

  • That one with the 'shelf' behind the seatpost what the fuck is that about?

  • In my haste to insult you I missed this choice gem. Are you suggesting that Campag is worse for longevity than the other two?

read into it what you will.

    CAMPAGFANBOYSSUCKNJSDICK

    :)

p.s have ridden a caad9 tiagra, thought it was overpriced, i like Cannondale in theory, just not in £££. i think its an £800 bike at the most.

    p.p.s where was the insult?

  • From what i've read/ridden the CAAD9 outperforms very little.
The Treks and Boardmans won. I even preferred the Alu Team Boardman, thats why i bought one.
    BikeRadar prefer the Boardman too.

Bit too intellectual for this forum, but here goes....

Bikeradar and UK bike tests are complete drivel...

This is what you need to be reading (in German)

Roadbike.de EUR2k 16 bike shootout alu vs carbon:

**CAAD (and a load of other alu frames) have higher BB, headtube and fork compliance than Focus Cayo and way more than Specialized Tarmac.

** Roadbike.de Conclusion summarised: "Alu is the preferred material at this pricepoint, compromises have to be made to get carbon frames under the 2k mark. Winner is alu Red Bull, then alu Canyon, Radon, Stevens. Carbon Focus Cayo is noted as decent."

The point is, groupset and wheelset is nice and all on the Boardman, but the first thing you have to upgrade will be the frame... With CAAD9/S1, the frame is top spec with numerous pro tour wins... :)

  • I don't know much about road frames but doesn't it make somewhat sense that it would be better to buy a top of the range alu bike than a bottom of the range carbon bike?

  • I recon it would be worth a visit to Decathlon.

    Dedacciai aluminium frame+carbon rear end.

If you're lucky you might find a Titanium end of line on the cheap.

  • We can get Dolan's for a grand, with ultegra.

    details!

  • get a fit done and then chose
make the decision on something that matters, not the fucking logo on the groupset or the colour of the bar tape

This is why I posted a list of budget carbon bikes with varying geometry, then a list of quality alu bikes with varying geometry.
It is possible to achieve near custom fit if you are (A) lucky, (B) know the geometry you need, and (C) look at enough OTP bikes/frames.

we all know red is fastest

    Good point.

    Top tips.

    1) Red is unbeatable when combined white contact points.
    2) The better the bike the lower the spoke count.
    3) glossy white finishing kit weighs less than black, which itself weighs less than plain metal.

    Hope these help.

  • the difficulty is when trying lots of bikes that people are still likely to be swayed by appearance etc

after a fit it will be fairly clear as to what bikes are possibilities and which ones wont work

the money on fit should be included in the "extras" costings of buying a bike (eg along with pump, lock etc)

  • i have just increased the value of my ti bike simply armed with a red marker pen and pliers to remove a few random spokes

  • details!

then you would HAVE to come to London to collect, and stay for a bit.
    come on, come on.

    Good job.

Now just dip your stem and seatpost in some white gloss to lighten it. ;)

  • Oooof

smallfurry - you and I need jobs as tour mechancs

  • OK. Not sure its wise posting this on an open forum, but....

For ultimate performance, paint a single spoke on each wheel red. Black if your clued enougth to already be rocking white spokes.

I'm doing this as soon as I've finished banging dimples into my rims.

  • I dont care for those anaesthetics.

    fixed

  • His 3rd replacement frame was set up with crossed cables too.

This done by some mechanics on purpose. It arguably offers better cable routing.

  • fixed

    As I said.....

Ride what makes you grin the most!

  • but you are in Norway, no wonder i am such a frustrated fucker

  • then you would HAVE to come to London to collect, and stay for a bit.
    come on, come on.

and ride it back to Aberdeen? don't make I larf

  • If fit is so important DJ why do most manufacturers offer their frames in a maximum of 5 sizes?
