omg I've just joined the ten-pin bowling club at Uni and massively want a skort! It seems to be the perfect gender-neutral item of clothing/way of acclimatising society to 'men' being allowed to wear whatever clothes they think look good!

Hi guys, another newbie! Recently moved to Brighton and been trying to get back on a bike (haven't ridden one in about 10 years). Initially bought a Dawes Mayfair to ride to and from town along the seafront but, living up many flights of stairs it got a bit heavy. Have now sold that and looking for a lovely light SS, and battling with my nervousness of riding in the road! Loads of really helpful threads on here, good work ladies!

Hey Guys,
Have just been woking my way through the thread, thinking I should introduce myself, then noticed I already had! My bad, I haven't been back here for a while.
Just to follow up, my quest for tiny frame is (sort of over). Managed to buy a lovely Jack Taylor frame on here a few days ago. A wonderful 18inch frame! Only problem is, it has a crack in the seat tube. An unanticipated crack, I may add (another issue). Here's a pic:
I don't *really *know what to do about it. I've taken it to my LBS and the guy there has offered to have a good look at it and see whether it would be possible to drill a hole just beneath the crack to stop it going any further. What do you guys think of this as a solution? My other options are having something brazed on over it, to brace it, or even a completely new seat tube, which seems a little extravagant (too much £sss!)
Any opinions welcome! :)

Talk to Ryan of Oak Cycles. He doesn't get on the forum much but could advise you on how best repair, PM me for his number.
-
• #131
Where's Oak Cycles?
-
• #132
SE1 (Webber St IIRC), it's just Ryan building frames in his workshop though so don't look for a shop because their isn't one.

A Jack Taylor is a thing of beauty, IMHO, you should get it done properly.
Let just says that Merican & Bob Jackson can't hold a candle to Jack Taylor.

Why thank you, Ed :)

Moog: Huh, boyfriend used to live very close by there. Might see what the LBS suggest, but could well be interested. Where on Webber St is it, if I were going to go?

Jenny, I have a Taylor that also needs a repair, and the only place that will be getting their mitts on it is Elliott Bay Cycles in Seattle. They have a personal relationship with the two remaining taylors and specialize in restoring them.

• #137
Wow, you really wouldn't trust anyone else with it? I'm not sure I would have the funds to do that. In fact, I know I wouldn't :(

I've had promising conversations with Argos as well, so maybe that would be a cheaper option.
A Jack Taylor is a very special frame, it's worth taking care of it.

I'd get Mario Bros to weld it up and respray it - can you get the decals for it? Maybe Mario got them in stock.
-
• #140
He won't.
Look, I am a MASSIVE Jack Taylor fan, they are hens teeth and very very worth taking care of.
The only place you can get decals is Elliot Bay, but they are willing to ship. This is not an LBS bodge job, and if you really don't have the money then sell me the frame and I'll sell you something else.

Mario has a big book of old decals you can phone him, he's very approachable.
I see they have some info here on the decals.

He won't.
Look, I am a MASSIVE Jack Taylor fan, they are hens teeth and very very worth taking care ofThat'd explain why you work in a cafe with two Taylor frame hanging up!
Any chance you know if the red one for sales?
-
• #143
it is, £400.
-
• #144
two lots of decals just sold on ebay, Mondrian and gothic styles. £16 each set.
-
• #145
Do they sell the hand lined lugs as well?
-
• #146
oh...wait...
-
• #147
this one sold with lug lining last week, nice work.
-
• #148
yes, but if you are re-spraying it, then you aren't keeping the lined lugs, you knumbskull.
Look, Jack Taylors are my own personal passion (well, mine, Ed Scobles, Eric Zo, Buffalo Bill and probably hanf a thousand other people), so you aren't going to convince me that a Vaz slap up job and a couple of digitalized stickers are going to be the way to treat a very special frame. Go do that to you Bob Jacksons and your Claude Butlers.
EDIT*
which is why that bike went for so much.
It is lovely, isn't it? sigh
BTW, Ed, that tourer that Lew is selling was lined by one of the brothers and it comes with a letter of apology that he wasn't able to do a better job as he's quite old and his hands keep shaking.

lug lining is done after the stove enamelling.
why am I a numbskull?
-
• #150
ok.
You have something with lined lugs.
You paint over it.
it no longer has lined lugs. (well, hypothetically speaking it does, you just can't see them)
So sorry if this is a repost ladies but Mrs. Brave has just bought some kit from here and thought it should be shared with you all. The Skort is wicked!
