RHR best done as soon as you wake up still lying in bed.
Cyclists and endurance athletes can produce very low figures; Miguel Indurain clocked lowest ever recorded apparently 28 BPM :D

I gave up coffee earlier this year while recuperating from my arse wound. Despite a drop in fitness, my resting HR has fallen from 46 bpm to 44 bpm. What can I do to reduce it still further?

*Die?
Just to make this clear, I don't want you dead Clive, but if you want your HR below 44 the only way is to pull the plug.

Ouch

harsh!
why do you want to reduce your resting heart rate?
its a pointer towards fitness, but some people have lower resting heart rates that others (i.e. you)

Internet bullying on a thread I started- the shame.

the systolic is high. Normal is 120 or thereabouts, but 1 blood pressure reading is nothing to go by.
An accurate reading is an average over a given period of time. -

Therefore if I get fitter it should get lower. I have always had a fairly low HR but since I took up cycling it has reduced further. I have never properly checked my resting HR but have taken it while on conference calls and found it to be 46 and now 44. Given that most conference calls render me near comatose, I suspect that this is close to my actual resting HR. After my second general anesthetic in a month in January, I had a little scare when I felt decidedly odd, took my HR and found it to be around 40. I had apparently suffered from a dramatic loss of BP during the operation and, I suspect this was related.
Mainly, however, I just wanted an excuse to show off a particularly low HR.

Reminds me of my 40+ year old health check last week.
She asked me how active I was so told her that I cycled every day to work, did long rides at weekends (all proud of myself).
"so would you say that you do aerobic activities once a week?"
"eerrrr no, every day" "
yes but is it aerobic activities? Because on the programme it says that cycling is a mild activity so shall we say 3 times a week".
Mild activity!!
I had to argue and we eventually settled for 5 days a week. -

Had my pulse taken today 42...

Clive, that seems extraordinary for someone with moderate fitness levels, what's your rate when you're cycling?

From 55 to 36-38 in 5 years (34 the lowest I have measured). My fitness has gone up a lot, but I'm far from elite. So pulse, less much.

Now you are going to say that Mark is right and I have mere moments to live.
Golly I was fat in those days.

Had my medical recently. Been dropping weight to focus on cycling/running. Even with a 32" waist, and little body fat. I'm still lugging too much weight around. Fecking 2cm shorter than I thought too.
Height - 166cm
Weight - 83kg
Blood pressure - 120/70
BMI - 30.1 -

Height - 180cm

Blood pressure - fucked
BMI - you should be dead you fat fuck
doesn't it depend on who's taking your pulse? and how much coffee you've had? and about a squillion other things.
Edit: don't google "hot nurse" at work. *self facepalm
