The whole idea, in terms of a place where more women would feel more comfortable talking about women specific issues and rides is a really good one. As long as men can join in as well (as has already been said). There's far more to sexuality than just having a designated set of bits.
But the ability (unless it was a joke) to edit tags is a bit lame IMO and pretty much censorship. Talking about tags, the ones on this thread are also pretty lame. Regardless of what lynx has or hasn't done ganging up on him because he's flavour of the month is extremely sad. The guy clearly has issues and this sort of bullying is the work of a cretin, no matter how much someone has pissed you off.
Does that mean the tags should be edited then? No thanks, I don't need a nanny to work out whomever wrote those tags is being a bit of a cock. And I doubt any intelligent woman would either.

I think the ladies should be the ones to choose if they wish men to be involved or not.
Too many men replying to this thread, and its the distinctly MALE behaviour on this forum that has brought this situation about in the first place. I reckon a women only forum would teach alot of the men on here a thing or two, about what is acceptable behaviour, and what is not. The whole idea of "anything goes", is shit.
Let the ladies have a good time, in their own way, and not have to put up with the shit that is so de riguer on here.

If Women Specific threads were tagged as women_specific, a term already widely used in the cycle industry, there wouldn't really be a need for a sub-forum for the purpose of providing easy access to all the women specific threads. A sticky thread in General called "Women Specific" containing links to other relevant threads would make life easy for noobs not yet familiar with the various search options.
I think the dangers of a ghetto are well known, not to mention that other groups might start wanting their own ghetto if women get one, but it's for them to make that mistake on their own, since the matter is otherwise trivial.

There is already an example of a forum within a forum, so it would seem odd to deny them this request,
based on that (particularly disagreeable) example alone.[Don't worry, at least I know the rules, especially the first one]

My understanding is that the ladies setting this up are fine about men joining in should they wish to, which sounds pretty cool and inclusive to me. However, any man being sexist or misogynistic within that sub-forum would be dropped from a great height this seems entirely reasonable and to be honest you'd have to be pretty fucking thick as a bloke to try such behaviour in a women specific section.
I like that so many men are replying to this thread, because overwhelmingly they're being supportive and saying it's a good idea if there's a need for it, which there seems to be.
I just think it would be a massive mistake to start building walls and I know that's not what this thread is about.

would this sub-forum be open to cross-gender folk?
-
• #259
If it's open to men, and open to women, then why the hell wouldn't it be open to people who aren't sure where in the spectrum they fall?
Claire and I had a word tonight, we like the idea of "lfgss ladies" as a name. We are (seat) post-modern and like the idea that A) we are ladies and B) it's a bit subversive.
@edmundro, ummm, I hate to be dumb, but isn't every single other forum ride on here mixed? Why don't the two of you go to one of those first, then if she meets people she likes then she can come to a ladies ride (but do assure her, I'm the only scary one, everyone else is nice).
BTW, let's exnay on reffering to me as a forum mum, I prefer to think of Claire and I as Good Cop Bad Cop.

By the way can we instantly ban Jayloo from the Ladies forum for starting this nightmare ;)
Jayloo is letting out our biggest secret!! Guys are not meant to think we fart!
Men fart
Ladies pass a gentle breeze, that make birds sing and kittens play with fluffy ball of wool. -

If the women specific threads are like the "ladies bike" thread then they will embody what i love most about the forum, people helping each other out with shared passion and knowledge. Am concerned about the potential for a ghetto being formed but that thread demonstrates it does not have to go down that route.

Stop with the sexist language. I'm not a bloke. Period. And I'm not sexist, just sexy.
