Why presume I intentionally used the word "gay" as a pejorative?
Fair enough I'll accept that, if you can recast your original comment (about liking the colour), replacing the word 'gay' with something positive, WITHOUT changing the intent of the comment.
e.g. :
hmm, call me witty and charming, but I like that colour.
I fail to see how that sentence structure can be any other than: "I am at risk of being denigrated as something I would rather people think that I am not but I am going to go out on a limb anyway and say that I like the colour."
