Agree about the Whittington, we spent a week in there when Pola was born last year. Heal up man.

Would always fight for an op, even though they're getting more difficult to get if you're not already in A&E immediately after the accident, and decide you want one later via your GP. 11 months after LockDown and shoulder feels great, no bump and fine with bags.

2nd that in a big way.
I have full mobility after 3 weeks (Obvs not doing any heavy lifting yet but can ride bikes!).
Heard a horror story from someone who had a break in July.
Convinced out of having the operation, put up with sling and pain for months.
Most recent X-ray, no-change in bone alignment, not healing.. -

That's better than it taking four years and twelve opinions to finally nail down diagnosis of a non-union with clear daylight between the two parts. Too late for bone graft so removal of collarbone, remodelling of shoulder blade and lashing resulting mess together with artificial ligaments. Ten years later and I'm approaching full function though my neck is fucked. Design life of ligaments - 10 years.
Top tip: when asked to grade pain say "Aaarggh!" not "I'd put that somewhere between eight and nine."
Four breaks: mid shaft - displaced, lateral - non-displaced, lateral - displaced, shattered. Only the shattered one was picked up first time. -

So thought i'd post about my crash on the way in the other week.
Was riding through the olympic park on my daily commute in the pissing rain when BAM! went straight into one of the way finding poles that was slightly sticking out into the cycle path. It was approx 6.30am so was pitch black (even though i have decent lights). I was probably going at a fair pace as well.
Apparently I was unconscious for 20 mins or so until a jogger found me on the floor. The pic is from a cctv still. There is no footage as it was completely dark when it happened. Once the light came up I became visible on the cctv. Ended up with broken collar bone, fractured sternum, fractured rib and possible dislocated shoulder (still getting that checked out - it's agony 2 weeks later!).
Hit the pole slap bang head on. Smashed my helmet up as well. So if that's not a good enough reason to wear a helmet i don't know what is.

Shitter. Way finding poles don't even pay road tax either.

Well done fussballclub!
I joined the club a few weeks back, along with a broken leg, after being hit by a van on Farringdon Road (currently waiting for police report). Surprisingly little pain and ease of movement (when not in sling). Consultant suggested leaving it to heal and not go down the route of surgery. Back to fracture clinic next week, more concerned about leg at moment - want to get plaster off and get going on rehab.
Whittington staff are brilliant!

I think i'm going to have to go back to the Whittington, since Christmas the metal work has been causing me regular pain and discomfort.

I had my metalwork taken out a couple of years after breaking one collarbone. In to hospital at eight in the morning, out by eleven. Bliss from the moment I came round after the anaesthetic; I hadn't realised that the metal had been bothering me as much as it obviously had. I felt like going straight back to work - which, at the time, was principally heavy lifting. If it ever happened again, I'd have no qualms getting rid of the metal as soon as.
Thats where I had mine done, I have to agree about the staff, the nurses especially were really good people.
