I heard on the radio this morning that BP have engaged the services of 3 major investment banks to fight takeover bids after another 10% fall in share price yesterday. Denied by BP, obviously.
BHP & some chinese mob called PetroChina among the names being bandied

don't buy quite yet
The oil giant's rating has been cut by six notches, from AA to BBB
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/10318547.stmprobably still a way to fall
once companies loose their high grade status certain hedge funds pension schemes are not allowed to hold it
if it's rating gets cut too much people will be forced to sell thus massive downside pressure -

what dicki said is true.
I'm a waiting, have some cash to chuck at them- maybe.... -
• #62
If BP goes wonky, does that mean the UK govt will underwrite everything and monies will be guaranteed?

what dicki said is true.
I'm a waiting, have some cash to chuck at them- maybe....Yeah I'm keeping an eye on them though. The only thing which bothers me though is will they ever fully recover from this? Surely if they owe this much money it will take them a long time

Not sure, unlikely.
Insurance will cover it though, and BP have massive insurance.Yeah I'm keeping an eye on them though. The only thing which bothers me though is will they ever fully recover from this? Surely if they owe this much money it will take them a long time
They will, bigger shit has happened to other oil companies.
it will take time. -

don't forget they make £8bn per year in profit they'll soon build up the reserves not that they haven't got reserves already stashed away somewhere to pay for this thing they should survive
alternatively short the fuck out of them / buy CDS's / buy puts and make a mint
a years worth of div's will hit the pension funds but they'll survive !
divs back next year plus a big jump in the share price
50% profit ? on investments if they start going north again- DISCLAIMER * Do not in any way mistake me for someone who knows a thing about all this City malarkey * And for heavans sake don't follow my share tips ! *

I know v. little, but have a few friends who care a bit more about it than me.
(its their job).I suggest Biotech, Singapore, India and China(if you can work out how) as investment opportunities.
Oh- and closer to home, Germany appears to be having a minor economic rally. -

I think it's probably a fake, irrespective of the year, created by an internet T shirt company. I can't imagine BP paying for a real ad like that: what's the purpose of it? who's the intended audience? Americans?
The juxtaposition of 'oil' and 'shores' has been taboo in corporate advertising for oil companies for years and years. There are lots of smart people involved in the creation of these things. They'd all have to have their brains switched to off momentarily for something like this to get out. Unlikely.

I think if the admen were responsible for keeping the oil where it should be we'd all be in it.

I'll ask a man in the know, then spread the love with the community here.
You say that, but it's not true, is it? BP had their shield logo in 1999: I was working for the corporate identity agency Wolff Olins so it was a big deal when they made the switch in 2000, thanks I think to Wolff's competitors, Landor.
