Yes it is home contents, is that better? That relieves me somewhat.. until I'm hit with a bombshell that I'm not covered!
I'm not sure what it was reported as, the PCSO who reporte was absolutely hilarious. He didn't know where Camden Road was, and when I told him that I will check Brick Lane he thought it was groundbreaking that people sold stolen bikes there- he said
he'd put it on the system so other officers could see it, shocking! -

Well it all depends, you need to check out what cover you have, but most people on here who have looked into it seem to have home contents or specific decent bike insurance as a rule.
Hmm - I'd check. I don't know if anything could be done about it after the fact but it seems like it should definitely have been reported as a mugging (whatever that is in police speak) not a theft, but it should have been if you described it to him in the same way as us.

Did you try the "second hand" bike shop on Eversholt Street, near Koko?
I popped in there today, but no sign of your bike. But they were selling a couple of Create bikes for £280, surely that's criminal!

Thanks a lot dude. If you have any other info I.E the colour of the tape, what the guy looked like or what he was wearing, anything really.

Thanks againA black hoody is all I can remember - which is no use I know.
I noticed it because there is what looks like a top end steel frame, but weirdly badged as Cervello, and a very similar colour somehere near here and I thought it was that one.
Unfortunately I was full of cold, tired and in a lousy mood so didn't pay that much attention. Wish I had been on here more recently as I could have bneen far more use. I think the Holdsworth markings were covered in masking tape. From memory it certainly wasn't black.

he'd put it on the system so other officers could see it, shocking! It's worth checking the terms of the insurance before you bung your claim in. You've only got one shot at getting it accepted and if you miss something out, it could all be over before it's started.
When I had a bike nicked, the insurance company wanted details of the lock, proof that it was my lock, and the ins and outs of a gnat's arse re where it was locked up, how it was locked up, and so on, and so on. Fortunately I was a model victim with receipts, an Abus Granit, and all the rest of it, but I think if I hadn't have been, there'd have been a loss adjuster knocking on the door to negotiate a 'reasonable settlement'.
Not wanting to paint too pessimistic a picture, but it would be worth writing down exact times, who was there, which perpetrator used actual or threatened violence, and all the other minute detail, so when it comes to the cross-examination of your story, at least you'll be able to stay consistent. It would also be worth getting the claim form now, so you know what they'll be looking for. At the extreme end you can employ a loss adjuster on your side to make sure you don't get your claim rejected for an apparently innocent omission/admission.
Extreme sympathy and best luck.

Hmm my case is quite unusual as it was more of a robbery than a theft (something like that)- it was like to a mugging. Particularly with rare bikes I've heard insurance can be a right pain. Apparently our home contents premium is £250 so taking into account what the insurance will rise by we have decided it's not worth claiming
on. Unfortunately it's either recover it somehow, or a loss of not only money but a really lovely bike.
Them putting tape on it makes me think they've probably taken it to use themselves. Bastards. -

I really feel for you too, having read all your posts on this. As someone who is just about to get back into cycling, I'm now kind of shitting it about all these jackings. I live in Stokey, which can be pretty bad anyway, especially round the High St or down Kingsland Rd, but my ride to work is straight past that skatepark in Camden...
On a positive note, I once got a brand new Aprillia scooter nicked on Caledonian road. Some thieving teens hotwired it, and razzed it onto the estate there. As it was just days old, it was still restricted and only did about 30. The fact I ran after them, and the fact it was low-speed put them off, and they left it revving on a pile of bricks. Sometimes, you can get these things back.
I'll be keeping an eye out too.

Spotted one locked up this morning and got excited while I took a photo.
But it's not the same bike.

Hi, posted you a PM and photo of possible sighting of Holdsworth, albeit with some different bars/stem/saddle components.
-
• #64
Saw this model of bike with same stem at the end of the london to brighton cycle ride yesterday. Not sure whether it had the same bar tape but thought I would use the stem to compare, not sure whether this was a stock item on the bike though. You may be able to look through the official photos that were taken but this will probably take ages as there will be around 30,000 if you need any more details about roughly when he finished do you could maybe gauge roughly when he would have got snapped and what he looked like drop me a pm.

There are 29 others to account for; I've seen one being ridden in Richmond Park since this was nicked.

+1, I think I remember that run of bikes all being sold complete/built-up with the same spec, would need to totally sure before acting on this.

There's enough different about it for it to be different.
Serial numbers to make sure though.
I'm assuming Santander is home contents (I know they're a bank but they all do that stuff these days don't they). That might be better in a way. Just make sure they're informed ASAP (they should have a 24hr claim line or similar) and be prepared to wrangle a bit.
CSOs = plastic policemen... they do seem to be taking bike crime more seriously though. I do think the trend towards robbery (rather than cutting locks etc.) is worrying and they should be on top of that.
So was it reported as a robbery or a theft?
