  • You had an entire rural policeman to yourself?

    Dirty bugger...

  • Claridges.

Wow. Delivered well above expectations. I didn't even know the Beef Wellington was his signature dish there. And I consider myself a foodie...

  • Dinner by Heston at Mandarin Oriental for lunch today. Menu looks interesting...

  • the roasted pineapple desert is excellent

  • Thanks!

  • Hawksmoor Air St. Go. :D

  • Cross post from AQA:

Does anyone know where I could pick up good oysters in North London which haven't been subject to a massive mark-up?

Eating them is on a friends "beore I'm 30 list", who is based in Crouch End and I'm in Stokey. Both places I'd have thought will carry a mark up on those sort of things. Steve Hat's in Angel is the obvious choice but that does tend to be pricey... and not always necessary ime.

    Any suggestions?

    Cheers.

  • Oh, Clever Pun, that pineapple dessert was the nuts!

Sorry can't help on the oysters.

  • Waitrose do supply oysters and surprisingly not too marked-up.

Alternatively, depends what quantity you are after and when you want them delivered, I have "a guy". PM if you want my guy.

it's great isn't it.. what else did you go for?

I know south London oysters only I'm afraid hugo. Don't they go off over the river?

  • I'd appreciate a sauce on some South London oysters CP...

  • lardons and Worcester sauce is a real winner

Have you tried going to billingsgate fish market?

  • Bonnie Gull?

  • off to the ivy for our xmas night out in a few weeks
i know it doesn't quite get the rave reviews it did once upon a time, but i'm still quite exited about going there
i get to see behind the dark green glass and see what it's like inside

  • Have the frozen berries with hot white chocolate for pudding. amazing

  • Had the tasting menu with wine pairings at Hedone last night. A Michelin Star well awarded, really tasty, interesting and the occasional taste challenge. They did a vegetarian version for me which retained as much interest as the non-veg menu. Will be finding out the wine pairings as a couple of the whites were the best ones we've ever tasted.

  • Went to the Gherkin last week and gave the a la carte a whirl

Amazing views and not many covers means the food is out quick and the place is well staffed

amouse bouche consisted of three things:
    Apple and cinamon mousse
    Pork scratchings
    Chorizo Madeleines (these were amaazing)
Mrs Pun was a little put out that they didn't replace two of the above for her as she mentioned she couldn't eat them... I wasn't to troubled and doubled up.

    Starters
I had the cured foie gras, pear and bitter chocolate. Interesting flavours married together fairly well, foie gras was more solid than I'm accustomed to.
V had Black Bream ceviche, fennel and radish, could quite work out all the flavours from the cerviche but it was pretty damn good

    Main
Iberian pork shoulder cauliflower and parsley gnocchi. Very good, the pork was great very similar to those big dried legs you see yet obviously much more succulent
Roast halibut, hard shell clams, yuzu and sea vegetables. Halibut was brilliant, V didn't care for yuzu, I thought it was ok.. black tar kinda stuff really

    Dessert
    Salted Caramel mille fuille..
V had a chocolate giraunda (sp) with coconut ice cream
Stunning desserts they really stood out, they do a tasting menu so I'll be back for that at some point.

we had 2 g&t's in the bar and then a bottle of wine between us and it came to about £90ph.. raphaesc if you will
