My gf and I celebrate our 1 year anniversary this week so I'm looking for somewhere nice to eat. I fancied going somewhere with a good tasting menu for a change and had originally booked Club Gascon in Smithfield having heard v good things about it, but remembered that she's allergic to shellfish.
Has anyone got any suggestions that aren't Fat Duck prices?

Pollen Street Social. Jason Atherton trained under Feran Adria (owner of the amazing El Bulli). Amazing food but not bowel-shatteringly expensive. Decent wine list and superbly attentive staff - told the sommelier doxy how what we had ordered and how much we wanted to spend and she recommended a couple of wines. They have a tasting menu too.
Unpretentious but fantastic. I recommend the full English breakfast starter and the PBJ desert.
Do it, do it, do it!
Alternatively, Andrew Edmonds. You can only book a week in advance and it's nice and intimate. Prices are decent enough and the menu's are still hand-written.
Report back please...

Do it.

Pollen St was fully booked for Thursday unsurprisingly but the menu looks so good I booked it for the same time next month anyway.
So, any other suggestions still welcome..

Window table at the Oxo Tower Brasserie...

I've heard mixed things about the Oxo without seeing it myself, so not going to bet my knackers on it for this evening. Settled on Roux at Landau in the end which actually seems pretty good value for the tasting menu. Will report back how it goes.

Excellent.
I've eaten at Oxo about 30 times and never had a bad experience. Some people are just overly fussy.

This. Not the 30 times, just twice for me, and both times it's been brilliant.
Going to the Ledbury tomorrow. My girlfriend has recently dabbled in eating meat after many, many years of not so we may go for the tasting menu. Looking forward to it!

The Ledbury is excellent. Not eaten there for a while, but always superb.

Andrew Edmonds is OK for a nice romantic atmosphere, but I wasn't wowed by the place or the food.

Agreed, atmosphere at AE is lovely and service was nice and personal but my lamb cutlets weren't especially special. Great place to take a date though.

I loved the Ledbury.
That was where Jung had his reception. The food was amazing.

Ledbury was amazing. That is all.

So we ate at Roux at Landau last night. I'm not sure if our expectations were too high but of the 7 courses on the tasting menu only 3 really stood out for me...the spit roasted beef with caramelised skin, scallops with spiced pepper and fennel, and the coffee souffle. The rest was very much meh.
My lady is allergic to shellfish so they swapped out the scallop for the veggie option, which was basically half a roasted cauliflower with celery puree. The wines were superb (the port served with the penultimate cheese plate was sublime) and the service attentive but not obtrusive, but for the money I was definitely not left impressed.
Thanks VB.
