Waterside Inn in 55 minutes for the full tasteing menu, I'm so hungry and excited its hard to contain myself.
I've never eaten more than 4 courses before, I presume they scale back the portions to make it possible to get all the way through!?

Marathon, not a sprint pace. And yes. Portions are smaller.

Late lunch today at De Launey.
Prawn Cocktail, Liver & Bacon, Black Forest Gateau.
Service, as usual, impeccable. Rapidly becoming my favourite dining room in London.
Tomorrow, quick pootle round Romney Marshes in the afternoon, then Rocksalt in Folkstone for dinner.
Eating in the boon docks is always a bit hit and miss, so keeping an open mind. Will report back.

Rocksalt, Folkstone
Smoked Coley with Poached Egg
Salt Marsh Lamb Rump, Green Sauce, Dripping Chips
Chocolate & Raspberry Fondant
Very competent cooking, good service, beautiful dining room overlooking the harbour. Highly recommended, will go again. Also, Folkstone was not as much of a shithole as I had expected.

I am in Folkestone, solo, this Friday night. Is it the kind of place to go to on your own?

I wonder if the tasting menu at the waterside killed Ed?

No problem dining alone at Rocksalt.
Would also be interested in a report from the Waterside. Ate there about 15 years ago, and have rarely eaten better since.

Rock salt booked for Friday. How civilised.

I wonder if the tasting menu at the waterside killed Ed?
I thought I died, then I realised it was jut a little bit like what I imagine the afterlife might be like.
Great food, impeccable service and a really beautiful setting.
Downsides was arriving too late to spend time on the terrace before dinner having a drink, the fat lass on the table next to us not waiting for the staff to move the table before she tried to squeeze through the gap that was too small for anyone, let alone her to get through and knocking my wine over onto my lap....
High points were the someliers recommendations, the extra box of mignardis to take home with us, and the raspberry soufflé.

I'm at the waterside again at the end of august. we got married there, best wedding meal ever.
As Ed said food, wine, setting and service is just incredible -

I might dig up the pictures we took later, I'm desperate to find an excuse to go back but at £450 for the two of us it needs to be a special occasion really!

Went to the Waterside for our anniversary and it was amazing, got free champagne and a little cake as well. I'll put up the le menu exceptionnel later
Hinds Head as well at the weekend, I do really like the scotch eggs there, pea and ham soup, shepherds pie and Cherry Bakewell with yoghurt ice cream to finish... yum

^ Both down the road from me. I second the Hinds head scotch egg. Their Veal Chop wih sauce reform is amazing too.

so, questions questions - recommendations for a soho relatively laid back anniversary dinner on Tuesday night. Already have cocktails and the fish pass sorted at Hix soho for an hour or two, depending on how much fish we can eat...
Cantina on D'Arblay Street? Polpo? One of those Poland St Social Eating House type things? Preferably tapas types or smallish bits to share rather than Hawksmoor meatfest.

Duck Soup fantastic for small/tapas-y stuff but maybe a bit noisy for anniversary affair.
