  • Can anybody help me identify my track frame? this could be a bit of a challenge.

Was originally sold here, with some info:
    http://www.lfgss.com/thread109476.html

British threaded BB, 27.2 seatpost, Campagnolo dropouts, the only numbers on it that i can find are 04.

    Thanks,
    Rob

  • ^ A 2-digit frame number shows an alarming lack of ambition on the part of the builder!
Lugs look like bocama or prugnat
Could well be British - but what makes you think it's not a Concorde - they can be quite tricky to identify as they tended to re-brand stuff*
(*That said much of the stuff they rebranded came from italy so less likely to have BSA BB)

  • My Fondriest Molven in Lampre team colours. Anyone seen more of these frames with the same paint scheme? What i found is some Fondriest Megalu frames which look quite similar, and usual Molven's. Would be nice to hear any info on these though. Picked this bike recently for kinda cheap, changed some parts already.

British threaded BB leads me to believe its not Concorde. also from what i can find of Concorde track bikes no others look like it.

I havnt checked the steerer for a number, so will have a look next time i can be bothered to take my fork off.

any Bianchi specialists out there? can you tell me something about this hub? (skip the zeus one from this album).
velobase gave me nothing, flickr returned few bianchi-branded-gipiemme.

  • ^QR nuts reminiscent of Miche....
I've owned Miche hubs like the bianchi's in your image, but couldn't find any images of these - most seem to have the campag record style oil-port clip.

  • Look quite similiar, hovewer mine doesn't have oil port. In what years did bianchi use this lettering?

  • Hi, have just bought a Bates frame with diadrant forks and cantiflex frame. The guy I bought it off thought he bought it new in 1958/9 and I was wondering if I could look up the frame number somewhere to confirm?

  • ^ Aren't you a lucky chap.

The frame numbering system used by Bates does not carry any code to denote the year or month of manufacture. It is purely sequential. The larger the number, the later the frame.

    More info here

    Pics of your bike please!!!

  • Theres a Bates owners club run by a very dedicated guy, its the only way to get decals too!

Theres a link to it here somewhere:

  • BATES "ALL BATES TRANSFERS listed below are shown for information only. They can only be ordered from
    Michael Bridgeland "Cantiflex", 07834 831 288

    or email michael@bridgeland.freeuk.com

Michael runs a registry of sorts. Good guy to talk to about any vintage.

  • I've got one myself, if you want any info or pics PM me.

  • Many thanks for the responses and information.

  • Rik Van Looy, will try to get a photo soon, it does need a paint job, a bottom bracket and a headset.

  • Don't think I'm allowed to PM for 24 hours for some reason and also not sure how to yet!

  • i've been given this bike, i know very little about it. All i can find on the frame is 12C stamped on the bottom bracket. Any ideas..?

  • Can someone confirm to me that this is a colnago c96 decor and why it doesn't have 'decor' written on the tubing like others I've seen.

    the
    I like this.
12c doesn't sound much like a frame number - have you tried taking out the forks and looking for a serial# on the steerer tube?
In terms of matching features and identifying a date etc - it looks to me like 1940's and has a few features that look a bit mercian like

  • ^^^white bike, ekla d fork crown as often found on Bates

  • ^Good call - here's a seatstay cap from a Bates BAR

  • http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251399189598? ... 1497.l2649

Is this any good? I cant really tell if its the real thing or mot..

    Matt

  • Nope, gas pipe tubing

  • Yup, thought as much!

  • Given what you've paid for it, it has a nice paint job and frames of that size are not common, it's a reasonably good buy. As long as you're not expecting to build a performance bike out of it, it would make a nice fixie or retro build.
