99.9% sure its a gitane. it should not have english threads if it is though.

I thought it was a Gitane, but the seller says it has english threads. I did a quick google and it seems Gitane produced bikes with various bb threading?

I just bought this Eddy Merckx, and I'm trying to identify it. It's obviously a respray, and a bad one at that. Looking through old catalogues, I'd guess it was a 1990 model, based on the look of the seatstays. The dropouts say "Eddy Merckx", the brake bridge does as well + it's got a "Silva" stamped underneath. It's got a tab for a racenumber and internal cabling for the rear brake. There's a hint of a serial number on the bottom bracket, but it's not readable (yet). It came with a Fondriest Dedacciai Optimal fork, which is probably not the original one...
I've stripped the bottom bracket on this one and it now a step closer to identifying it (I hope).
The serial is a Danish one, marked as a bike imported by Moreno Bikes in 1995. There is also a small 'H' on the drive side of the bottom bracket shell. According to http://www.cadre.org/Merckx/, the latter suggest that it might be a Corsa Extra, but the Corsa Extras were TSX/SLX and mine doesn't have the rifled tubing.
The frame weighs 1850 g and is 58 square. -

have the very same lugs on my gitane mexico. dropouts are the same too, actually all the details are the same. except the english threading, which wasn`t confirmed yet.

Yea i think it is a gitane, i will wait until it gets delivered and then double check the threading. even if it is english it could still be?

i have not heard of any of those gitanes to have something else than french, but if so consider yourself a lucky guy. its a nice frame and you have a far wider choice for headset and bb.

I know very little about this frame that I picked up on the forum a while back. It's lovely to ride and I'm trying to decide whether it's worth turning into a project or just riding till it fails. If anyone can help with the provenance of this frame I'd be most grateful.
The words Rainbow and Super Sport show through the paint but I can't find anything useful about either online. Can do more pics if needed.

Anyone know what brand of headset top cap this is? Or a similar one that's really low in height.

I would guess its the stock one but dunno. They look pretty slim from stock.

Hi guys!
I bought recently a frame listed as 'Diamant, Columbus tubing' and I'm trying to get to know a little bit more about it.
The photos of the listing are here: http://tufotki.pl/redK9#p452635
First of all, there isn't a lot of info on Diamant - I know that there is/was Belgian Diamant and German one. Comparing their decals to my frame, I can see logos/fonts of both - 'D' on the head tube and 'DIAMANT' on the seat tube point to Belgian, but 'Diamant' on the top tube looks like German decal..
The BB is of Italian standard.
I think the original paintjob was silver, with red head tube, lugs cut-outs and seat tube fragment.
I am also not convinced about the 'Columbus tubing' part - the remains of the decal on the seat tube does not look like a decal usually put there, size-wise. On the other hand, the campag seatpost (stuck badly, but I've managed!) is 27.0.. The frame, with fixed cup, headset races and without fork weighs ~2 kg +/- 100g.
I am also curious about the 'Special AA Type Competition' decal..
Thanks for any info!;)

Just got this frame. Anybody got an idea what it is? Used in the Vlaamse Wielerschool (eddy merckx).

thank you for all the good info
don't have any decent way to weigh it, standing on a scale with the frame minus my weight i come at 2kg, putting the frame on a smaller scale (kitchen equipment :s) i get 1.6kg
does anyone know who could have made the frame?can't seem to find any serial numbers but the paint is on so thick it could be hiding somewhere :p
