  • The Bridgestone XO is a great bike, it actually came with the moustache bar as standard;

I really want an XO-1. were these even marketed in europe?

  • Nope, US only by the person behind Rivendell, i.e. not design by Bridgestone, Japan per se.

If you want an XO-1, get the Atlantis instead, they're pretty much the same frame.

  • Bit of an update to those riveted to my search to find who built my frame, I know there must be at least none of you. I swapped the fork over for one I can run a brake with for the time being and the original has Campagnolo ends... Well if it is indeed the original. Also I found traces of red paint in the head tube - so i can safely assume some of the bike was painted red at one stage... Perhaps. Maybe more clues will emerge when I strip the paint off in the summer.

Hurrah for bike detective work, why buy a boring branded bike when you can waste hours trawling the internet in search of the truth. I think I know every single bike on velospace and fixedgeargallery now.

    Can anyone help me out?

This is my "Tossini" that I bought last year.

Now I really should have done some homework before I bought this guy, with a name like Tossini it must be an Italian frame right, and look - there's an SLX sticker.

However it wasn't until I gave it a bit of a service that I realised he wasn't who he's pretending to be. First off - the tubing is pretty nice, light with a good "ping" and takes a 27.2 seatpost - but it ain't SLX as there's no rifling down the seat-tube. It also takes a british threaded BB, so the chances of it being Italian are greaty diminished!

That said - it's still a lovely bike and I'm planning on respraying it soon as the paint is really showing it's age. It's probably been resprayed at least once in it's life as there's evidence of sandblast in the seat-tube.

My theory is that it's probably a 60's/70's Dutch/Belgian frame that someone bought in the 80's and "Italianisised" it as was the fashion. If anyone could throw any light over it I would greatly appreciate it... the lug's in particular are pretty unique:(although badly painted!)

    Thanks very much!

  • Harry, is it not possible that the red paint is primer? I seem to remember reading recently that red was a common colour for primer - could be a load of bollocks of course ;)

When are you going to post your Frankenbike in current projects? I'll post it in porn if you want? I want to come over and ride it!

  • Hi all

I wondered if anyone on here could identify the frame I've just bought. Seller didn't know a manufacturer as it's been resprayed, he thought it might be Columbus tubing because of the lug shaping (I wouldn't know either way). It has RGF (BB shell manufacturer?) stamped on the nds bb shell, and has campag dropouts and fastback seat stays.

Takes a 27.2mm seatpost and a British thread 68mm BB.

I'm over the moon with it, so I'm not really desperate to know what it is, just curious. Pics below :)

Let me know if I can take some more helpful photos.
    Fanks :)

  • Columbus didnt make a tube set with pre formed ends, the curve of the fork and tube ends suggest its reynolds. If you can be bothered to take out the forks they should have a reynolds or columbus bird stamp

  • Cool, thanks for the tip, I'll be back once I've had a look at the steerer :)

Yep - you're right, could be primer! Oh and I posted a halfbuilt pic of the frankenbike in current projects a while back... got a telling off for that! I've got all the bits for it now - just as the weather is getting nice.

  • Ha - I bet Hannah is SO pleased about that. For the record the weather is not getting nice, it's cold and grim still.

What are you doing later? Beer? Lmnh?

  • Any thoughts on this unnamed but columbus stickered bike?
    brev. campagnolo on the dropouts
    headset is a mystery
    Suntour superbe hubs and chainset
    sachs new success aris derailleurs
    weinmann clb omega r brakes
    atax stem

never seen that columbus sticker before

  • headset looks like mavic.

  • which might date the bike to 84/5

  • lugwork

  • The 3 means only the main triangle is columbus tubing

  • I didn't know where else to ask this.

What does a 'record' frame mean? I was talking to a guy and he said he only had vintage 'record bikes'.

Could mean it's one of these? Old Soviet frames...

    1. He probably means bikes that came with Campagnolo Record parts (good)
    2. He has a shed full of Raleigh Records (not good)

For some reason, and I'm not sure why, Aende comes to mind when I look at, especially, the seat cluster.

  • If the sticker says Columbus only it's SL

  • I think it's a... bicycle.

  • What rims are those?

  • If the sticker says Columbus only it's SL

All right thanks! I was a bit doubtful because of the respray (according to the sticker).

  • ^^
