Tyres for commuting? Plus or Racer?
-
• #7880
Plus for peace of mind. Or at least on the rear.

1st commute after fitting Kojaks got a puncture!

Standard marathon.

The green one?

I put sealant in mine, but the winter miles are killing mine and i had a slow puncture last night. Thank god the sealant worked but it still a concern now that kojak are just useless for my 17km commute.

I'd have thought you'd be ok with racers, given as how you're a climber's build, no? Though luck plays a big part in visitations, the only one I've had on my racers was a sharp piece of wire that would have gone through any tyre, and I'm big, heavy, and do urban miles with all the broken glass &c. that that entails.

Conti Urban, marathon plus.
Racers are slow.

Bit of advice from @R.hobbs , before I order please!
I fitted these bars https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/handlebars/joseph-kuosac-handlebar-for-bromptons-mid-rise-254mm-clamp-silver/ to my M-Type, what cable set should I now order, as I think the length is now somewhere between the m-type and s-type?
-
• #7888
Use M type cables, the levers sit wider so take up any slack issues!

• #7889
Thanks!

Put a Kojak on, last week, as an emergency tyre to get me through till when the Conti's come out. Wondered how long it would be until the puncture fairy arrived. Turned out it was about 50 miles in.

Really? They feel noticeably less draggy than pluses. How tough are the contis? (And do the production ones now fit under the mudguards?)
-
• #7892
Did not know about Conti Urban. Going to try those when my current stock of spare Racers runs out.
-
• #7893
They dont go under mudguards
-
• #7894
Balls

• #7895
Pluses are faster than both normal marathon and marathon racer! just heavier and stiffer.
The contis are pretty tough, no mudguards is bullshit though.
Apparently they will go under now as the ones I have are samples...
I will find 5 minutes when the next batch arrives to check this. They look perfect

• #7896
Uh if they go just put them on my bike :p

Yes

I used these bars on my ‘P’. I would have gone for ‘S’ bars but needed clearance for my ‘O’ bag. I cut the bars down to 50cm and shortened the ‘P’ cables by comparing the position of the levers, etc, on new and old bars and measuring the difference.
I would have cut them narrower if I could (no space for levers on my 6 speed) and would also have gone for the flat bars if it wasn’t for the bag-clearance. I’m riding at max extension on my long seatpost so it wouldn’t suit everyone though.
If you are going to go the ‘cutting down cables’ route then remember that you need to get the height of the cable gatherer right. The end that the cable housing is shortened at affects this and I had to find some spare housing in my ‘useful bits’ box as a result after overlooking this. -

The lower of the front brake is the same length whatever the handlebar height / stem used.

The one that says “marathon” on it.
Threads into the hub. New indicator chain and all is well.
