How do they fair in a metal container?
-
• #6878
If it’s a SIM card based tracker they were ok but if you get a container port with stacks of them it gets a bit harder but there are ways around that. Unfortunately I’m not sure anyone would bother to recover a bicycle. The other gps versions went rapidly down hill with anything blocking the signal. With ours it was usually more knowing where a car was going as people went about their business than stolen cars, also we put them on without owner consent so you’re a bit more limited on fitting and efficiency when you’re fannying around under someone’s beemer on their driveway at half three in the morning.

I am curious - was this a job ?

Yeah dodgy private investigator types checking up on cheating partners.

Customs covert ops and then other things. Dodgy PIs had better kit than us! (I once ended up deployed with that news of the screws fake sheik and he had a much snazzier car and a better obs van)

Woah. Hang on. Can I just rebuild my wheels to 18" and put knobblies on? What ab out clearance? Do the brakes still work, or do you have to switch to discs?
As long you removed the mudguard, and yes you need discs.

Last time I played with trackers and even sim card based ones all were defeated by single level containers and fridge backed vans.

Only if you use a skimpy tyre like a kojak, Vincent (Eerder metaal) produces forks and rear frames to suit, with longer stays so you can use 18” and a decent tyre..
No point fitting a new triangle and wanting to use 18” but not making it a little longer IMO

So picked up B75 today and I know it’s comprised, but got to say it still feels like a Brompton .
I had an S6L and to be honest on the sort of terrrain I ride on around Oxford I don’t miss the 6 speeds .
Bars are AWFUL so gonna pop some low risers on tomorrow and probably change pedals to XT spds like I had before .
Overall I like it as much as my previous. -

Change the bars and brake levers, it’s pretty cool. The choice for pre 2017 stem is lame but oh well!

Has anyone used the Barbour Tarras bag? I need a new bag for work, Brompton compatibility would be a bonus.

The Carradice City Folder M is excellent if you're looking for alternatives.

+1, or the Stockport if you want something slightly sleeker. The Brompton/Chapman game bag is nice but v. pricey.

£50 instead of £100, use it on an s type with the handle cut off so doesn’t matter that that doesn’t stick through perfectly!

Wanna see that thing folded
-

So - I had a run-in with a lorry who ran over the rear triangle of my Brompton (and fortunately not my leg).
Just got a quote back from the bike shop - new triangle, new rear wheel (3spd instead of the SS it was originally), shifters and labour come to £520. Which is still half the cost of a new 3spd Brompton. But it's pretty much what I paid for it second hand 5 years ago.
So - does it seem worth it? Are there any other questions I should be asking to clear that up?

if its lorry driver's insurance job, ask shop to write it off and get a new brompton
-
• #6896
yeah, it's not because the guy fucked off while i was on the ground
-
• #6897
Break that down?
Rear end is £150, wheel £170, hinge £20..
What else is there and what’s the labour?
I have a tonne of spare rear ends ... can help a brother (or sister) out...
Ship the bike to sjs, we will sort the rest out and return it to you.
Glad it was your bike and not you..

God bless and glad you are alright.
Have you lodged a report? You got his reg? Any cameras or witness? There's MIB as last resort: https://www.gov.uk/compensation-victim-uninsured-driver

It does fold unfortunately I did not get a picture. Piero who built it is the main dealer for Bromptons in Rome

I reckon that it folds a bit smaller than twice the size of a normal folded Brompton.
IMHO gps trackers are a bit shit on bikes because bikes are so easy to hide and the signal may not be accurate enough to encourage or even allow police action to recover the bike. What can you do if the signal says it’s in a block of floor a terrace of houses. I’ve not used bike trackers but have substantial experience on car trackers-deployment, service and tracking
