  • Is it just me, or has anyone else with a 2 (or 6) speed set up worn out their jockey wheels to the point that they can no longer change gear? The gear change mechanism seems to wear the outer lip as it pushes the wheel across, to the point that the lip is worn down so much that the mechanism has nothing to press against.

    I've now had it twice in about 4,000 miles. Maybe I'm just a bit aggressive in my gear changing??

  • This is part of the issue i'm having with mine at the moment. I guess better to wear out the jockey wheels than the 'derailleur'.

  • This is true.

    You can just swap the two wheels over, then buy a new set ready for when it wears out again. They're not multi-rotational, so you can only swap once, if that makes sense :0)

  • Any suggestions for a nice bag for my S-type handlebars ?
    I don't want to break the bank and want something to put there instead of using a backpack.

    The Ortlieb would be nice, but so expensive!

    But then the usual dilemma, what if you needed more space?

  • It’s just normal wear and tear. A steel derailleur cage vs a plastic pulley is only ever going to result in one winner. You can buy pulleys as a pair or just replace the whole tensioner.

    In this case smaller is not better.
    S bag is small enough for day to day and big enough for extra bits and a shop when you want..

  • Thanks actually got one from a local shop then found a used O Bag which I'm going to pick up tonight. Didn't care about waterproofing, but if price is competitive (used O Bag vs new S bag) then why not.

    Only shame is that the new S Bag was lagoon blue so a match for my Brompton.

  • Next time I will follow the asked for advice more closely. Got the used O Bag and indeed I can see a the issues highlighted in the above post.
    Yet now I have it I'll give it a chance. I do plan to NOT fill it at all a part from office gear.

    Let's hope it's not as annoying or it'll go back where it belongs, eBay.

  • Lessons learned 1. Do not ask for advice if you don't plan to follow it and 2. If you do ask and you do get it, do follow it even if you didn't plan to follow it in the first place.

  • Aside from sealant, has anyone tries used tyre liners aka Zefal or Flat-away for tyre protection for their Brompton?

  • Only sealant, its all you need!

  • Make sure your limits on the DR are set, most people who have issues with the top idler wheel wearing is because the limits mean the idler wheel is rubbing the DR the whole time...

  • O bag, worth every penny!

    Failing that, I know we have some older model O bags on sale on SJScycles, or the Vincita range is on discount!

  • Can you put sealant on the stock rims from Brompton?
