  • RL is only available as a single colour.

Desert Sand and Claret on the other hand is abysmal.

  • I've gone for Turkish green extremeties and black frame on the new one, Ealing cycles say end of the month hopefully - can't wait.

  • I've spoken to Graham, he knows it'll be shuffled to the front of that weeks allocation ;-)

  • I'd strongly recommend a colour on the extremities; Turkish Green if you want a non surcharge one or any colour looks good with a White main frame.

Is that from a practical point of view, or asthetics?? I guess white won't stay that way for long.

  • The Brompton initiative is totally excellent. Well done, Brompton.

  • Sorry- that should read any forum members...

    Hello ,

i'm in the UK next month (finally) and i've seen the Brompton i want.

Can anyone recommend a london bike shop i could go into that
Would sell me a brompton , i'd pay then they'd post it for me back to japan.
    Anyone know anywhere ?

    Pm please

    Cheers,
    James

  • Why don't you just buy it from Mizutani dealer back in Japan?

    http://www.mizutanibike.co.jp/brompton/

  • It costs 170,000 yen for the basic model.

    Which is about 1300 pounds.

  • So, you're looking for a shop with a fair amount of stock so you can just pick one up?

might be worth ringing ahead and seeing if they have one in and reserving it?? pay some excess baggage and you're home and dry

  • Condor Cycles have some.

    Gray's Inn Road near Holborn.

I've gone off Bromptons. I wanted to review one in a default config and then pimp the hell out of it to make a nice one and then review that before considering whether I actually wanted one. But no-one can get me a review one I can pimp out (they shouldn't expect it back). So I'm just going skip folding things... none of them are pretty, and I always have this nagging thing that you look dumb riding one.

  • I think mine in a nice one without any pimping to speak of (I don't really count ATACS, new grips, and barends as 'pimping').

The fold is so awesome (and mindboggling too, once you've tried to get a shortish computer cable run to follow existing cables), there's little room for maneouvre. They've poured hours of R&D into it to reach this stage.

If you need the fold option in your life (limited parking / travel / storage / whatever) they're a great idea. Horses for courses.

  • I ride my bike to the bike park and leave it there for 12 hours a day which is something i dont like to do, even in safe japan.

I currently get 3 trains to work. Trains two and 3 are tokyo packed.

I've worked out a route which means 1 train journey (sitting ) and then a 30 min bike ride To work. And cuts 30 mins off my commute.

Getting a brompton for the commute makes perfect sense.
My other bike for the night rides and weekend.

    Simples.

    Awesome. Thanks Tiles

  • Finally ordered my Brompton last week, got another 6 weeks before its ready. Going for a M2L basically.

  • I am now a SS Bromptonengernaut. It's better that way; for me *and *the bike; apparently.

  • What happened did the derailer on your S2 break or something?

  • Yes. 6 months use, and the shifting was fucked. The mechanic/s reckoned (from anecodotal and workshop evidence) it operates fine within a certain comfort zone; but if you push the envelope (power/terrain-wise) it's plasticky nature, with built in play, is a design flaw. I'm awaiting warranty info from my 'man inside'…

  • the results for the World Championships are in

Managed to get my sub 25 minutes target...just

  • Well done. The hand painted winners Brompton looks quite nice.

  • Shit photo, but it's to hand. Last few mods done today. That's it now, apart from switching back to Marathons and a 13t sprocket for the colder 6 months of the year.

  • (that's an old Cateye commuting light upside down on the bars - it has to be rotated to that position for the fold)

  • Minus the derailer as well, or is that back on now?

  • No, that's gone for good. Good fucking riddance.

  • Hmm I'm really considering changing my order to the SS.

  • Anyone got an idea on how much a Brompton drops in value if sold from new to second hand?
