What are you wanting the carry? The box on the rear is a pain because you have to remove to fold.
I vote get the biggest front bag you can.

I think you are right…. I just got a front block so will try and get a big front bag, think I’m just trying to be (not very) clever

I use the brompton rack bag to carry a tool bag and it works very well. For my use case it's been worth the money. I can get 2 5lt tins of paint in it and have needed to quite a few times. The main downside is you can't stand the bike on the rack to park it temporarily when the rack bag is on it.

Maybe this? 😊

MKS Compac Ezy pedals: I can confirm that these will come off if you mislay your yellow C-clip. At least if you wear size 50 grippy flat soled shoes. Off twice on the way to work. Used a reusable zip tie to replace the C-clip - just the right width, and removable.
For future reference, I got this Cyclo spanner which is an excellent job for the limited space available to fit these:

This is kind of cool

I think they ride a bit better with some weight on the front.
I have the Brompton Borough basket bag for bigger stuff and for work I use the medium Messenger, which itself can carry a fair bit.

Sorry it took so long. Folded, unfolded, lit with Brompton canvas bag. Red circle means it needs charging - runs out pretty quick on full power. Brake cable gets caught when folded but isn’t unhappy

Changing the subject completely, and I realise this comes up about once a year, but what are the thoughts on going tubeless? I’m going to convert a gravel bike over Christmas so will have most of the stuff, I’m going to put Contis on (as Marathons give me the heebee jeebees in damp or wet weather - two wheel drifting on a commute should be optional) so does that change the answer?

Wut? Tubeless on a Brompton?
What rims? What tyres?
Wrong thread?
-
• #12589
Nope. Standard rims, Continental Urbans, 70psi for more grip & comfort?
-
• #12590
Hmmm... not sure if you're being serious...
-
• #12591
Hahaha the standard rims will definitely not go tubeless.

I see SJS have the Contact Urban for Brompton at £19 which is not too bad.
A reliable tubeless setup would be really well suited to commute bike use. The time when you least want to get a flat, in the place where you least want to have to change a tube.
But aside from the practicalities (the Contact Urban isn’t tubeless ready anyway), I think a Brompton at 70psi would be hard work even with a tubeless tyre. They seem to need to be up around 100psi and I doubt if that would be much less tubeless. I’m not sure if sealant reliability is there yet at those sort of pressures.

Thanks, good advice

Thanks for this

Why not? I was assuming I’d need tubeless rim tape as well as the valve, wouldn’t that work?
-
• #12596
I’m assuming this gravel bike is your first tubeless set up?
Not all rims are tubeless compatible; nor are tyres.

Do they really make that much difference on rolling resistance, against a Schwalbe Marathon?
-
• #12598
Nothing drastic but they are definitely a little smoother to ride, more compliant on crappy surfaces.
Edited to add: and I feel I can get away with a little less pressure - I have them at R 100 psi, F 95 psi vs 5 or 10 higher with the Marathons. 80kg rider.

Ok, thanks!

Wow that's cheap!
Ok so that box didn’t really work, has anyone had any experience of these ( or does anyone want to sell me a front or rear Brompton bag) H
