Speaking of, I wanted to pick up some tyres and a few bits from the Brompton.com online shop. Does anyone have a referral voucher they’re not planning to use…? 😇

I'd appreciate one too plz.
edit: what's the dynamo hub of choice for bromptons?
-
• #11962
Why not buy it from your local independent shop instead of supporting Brompton whos trying to constantly screw us over?

Sp or SON.
SON is baller of course, but it’s beautiful, light and very very good.
Wife runs sp with son lights; were out of stock of all black when she ordered.
Can supply SON as a bundle btw

Ah fair comment

Nothing against you, purely directed at Brompton.

Probably a numpty question here but why are “Brompton” chains so expensive? I have a 2010 3 speed and need a new chain and probably sprocket. Any reason not to put well basically any old cheap (E.g. 7 speed or similar) one on? It’s only got one sprocket at each end after all.

That worked really well - I spend the vast majority of my traffic-light infested commute in the middle gear of the hub, with much less hub shifting than before.
-
• #11968
As far as I can see any 6-8 speed chain would do. The stock one seems to be bog standard 7 speed SRAM.
-
• #11969
Stick any 3/32nd single speed on, i tend to favour kmc x7/x8
-
• #11970
Any reason to avoid a 1/8” chain on a non-derailleur brommy?
I’ve got kmc z1 on both mine and they run fine.
-
• #11971
My brain says; 1/8th runs fine on 3/32 but wears ever so slightly quicker?
On a brompton it’s fine, just some of the older ones had 1/8th pitch sprocket and chainring so obv can’t run 3/32
-
• #11972
Wears quicker because it’s a bit too wide? Never thought about that.
Not sure what my rear sprockets are actually, could well be 1/8” if I’ve changed them…
-
• #11973
Yeah because it can move side to side more? Could be an old wives tail tbh!

• #11974
Nice, sounds good!

Thanks both.
Add £200 to both.
