I got mixed feeling about that bike.
it obviously got alots of care and attention to it, but kinda ruined by fork, tyres colour, frame colour and mudguard colour.

yes, coaster only, for the first time the velosteer hubs actually feel dodgy, never had that before, need to take it apart and grease it up properly.
the Kona Bike look excellent, just the perfect idea of an everyday bicycle for the average joe, wack in some Fat Frank tyres and it'll be a peach, I actually mentioned it in this very page not far from the top!
I'd love to get the Bike had I not already got a perfectly good bike.

plenty nice that mr scoble. is the front rack a Velo Orange one? Worth the (plenty) monies?

Is there any advantage to having a rack (and load) at the front of the bike?

higher centre of gravity and wonky steering?

yes velo orange and worth the money.
it's one of those thing that you didn't think it'd be useful until you've tried it, I personally find it more useful than a rear rack, especially the width which make it easier to strap a bag or two on it.
I usually tend to have a big saddlebag attached to the handlebar and the rack hold it upright, it's bliss being able to reach in and grab something while cycling.
the downside is that it can affect your steering under heavy load, this varies by the fork rake and the position of the rack itself (attach to the axles, or halfway on the fork), having a bigger rake make it easier to ride under heavy load.
there's other rack that doesn't affect the steering even when under heavy load is a frame mounted rack, this is useful for those who doesn't have eyelit for rack let alone brake hole.

Anyone used either of the gamoh racks, or had a good look at one in the flesh? Just ordered a Kona WorldBike and these are looking to be my top choice. The King Carrier looks bloody huge though, esp for a 26" fork, just interested in some opinions!

The Gamoh is a bit limiting, it look nice, but you're restricted to the basket, whether other rack like the Velo Orange one allow you to removed the lips to have a flat surface - much more flexible, especially when you're carrying something wider than the surface.
have a look at the frame mounted rack, especially when you can remove them when you don't need it.

I have the Gamoh and love it. As Ed says, it's only really useful for stuff that will fit inside the rack, though there are pretty big gaps all the way round so you could have a load poking though, or you could rest something large and flat on top of the rack.
I went for the Junior as the other one looked massive. Mine is on a big frame and I can't imagine having one any bigger without looking a bit silly. And unless you're transporting packing peanuts or something, I reckon anything that's too big for the Junior rack is likely to be too heavy to be comfortable on a fork mounted rack.

Very nice, shame to get it dirty though. I'd end up having a hack bike to keep the porteur clean and tidy... -

every time i see the porteur bikes mentioned here I smile inside remembering the Jacques Tati films. I know he doesn't have the rack on the pics.
