  • You can get some cheap one, like dutch one for £20-40.

Paul one are downright ugly despite being paul

    Where?!

  • Not quite 20-40, I saw one on wiggle today that someone posted, its just what I want!

  • They're fine straight out of the box, even the pedal is decent.

Actually, changing the tyres to a Schwalbe Big Apple would be a good choice, but the current tyres (they varies for some reason) is fine.

    I've just notice that the 'world bike' is now aptly 'bike' with 3 speeds, coaster brake and alu frame (pity);

Just bought one of these for shopping and kid carrying....the steel version.

when arrived was much lighter than I expected, until I put front kid seat and rack on that is...£280 with topeak rack and delivery included.

Love it, except for the CND / Rasta logo.....advertised as coaster brake, but isn't has two v brakes and 3 speed hub gear....gears are a bit high for kid carrying with shopping so ordered a bigger sprocket...

as posted elsewhere 24 quid from UK inc postage: http://www.winstanleysbikes.co.uk/product/31992/Basil_Memories_Front_Carrier_Rack

  • not sure if this is allowed but i have some wheels fro sale off my old utility bike which would be ideal for anyone thinking of a build... insanely strong fixed fixed 29er with the option of disc up front if you want it

  • We will releasing a Tokyo Fixed branded frame before Christmas which is a bit porteur / pathracer like. It will have Columbus Thron tubing and a mix of fillet brazing and lugs, also a really nice fork crown. It will have a really good looking fork crown also and all the braze ons for front and rear rack + mud guards. Hopefully it will be under £500.

Also the Singular Peregrine could work really well http://www.tokyofixedgear.com/shopexd.asp?id=3006&bc=no

  • Just got the Kemper porteur in at Velorution. Cool bike: 3 speed, coaster, nice big rack. £750.

  • I really like the idea ofn a basket in the front of one of those dutch racks.

  • I'm really interested in reducing my growing bike collection by building something that is a bit more versatile (and then convince myself to sell some of the others!). I'd like something that is either single-speed or internal geared hub with mounts for mud-guards and a front rack. Something similiar to this frame would be ideal:

    http://salsacycles.com/bikes/casseroll/

The main uses will be mainly in London either commuting or pub with max mileage being about 15 miles at a time. My budget is £100-150 for the frame which means that I am looking at something used.

Does anyone have any recomendations frame-wise? Will a touring frame work for what I am after? Would just post a wanted ad but wanted to get some general thoughts first so I don't waste peoples time.

  • Have you considered a Pompino?

  • I had but the new ones are a little out of budget (200 for frame and fork). Not really into the older version paint/logos but in terms of mounts, dropouts/trackends it seems pretty ideal.

having a quick look on ebay it looks like there are a few touring frames that would work like:

  • Seems I forgot to post my bike here...

  • Love that ^. How does it ride? And what is the rack?

  • It rides very nicely. Heavy as hell, but it rolls nice and makes a change from 120psi 23cs.

The rack is a Minoura Gamoh Junior...perfect for my needs.

  • are there any draw backs fitting mudguards rated width wise for 38-45c while running 32's? i can't think of any but want to make sure i'm not being stupid. I figure the wider guards would be wise so I can run fatter tyres should I want to.

    no

  • No drawback, well with the additional bonus of less stray object getting stuck (which rarely happen anyway).

it also mean it'll be easier to removed wheels without needing to deflate them much.

  • thought so, thanks for confirming that I'm not being stupid.

  • Sandancer's bike ^ is pretty much the best thing I've ever seen. I was thinking about building a bike for my GF that was lighter than her usual sit-up-and-beg town bike things but still had racks - and you bike is pretty much exactly how I'd want it to turn out, only better than I could imagine!

  • Don't forget to ask her if she want a mixte frame or normal frame.

  • What frame is that Sundancer?

  • I have no idea; I got it from the classifieds for £20!

  • ....runs off to classifieds to post wanted ad
