But seriously, its not that I was afraid to refer to Lynx by name, but hoped that he would hear the penny drop, and realise that there is a cause to his treatment on this forum.

I am not a physical coward, nor am I afraid to bandy words of ire with another, but I have a great respect for you Will, so I will do the right thing.

Lynx, please understand that this forum is an accepting place, but there are ways and means of joining in. Your thread for every thought you have, does greatly tee me off, but its a free country....so do as you will.

But if you do post your posts in threads that pre-exist, and the topic of discussion is the same, then others, like me, will respect you. Your threads currently smack of ME ME ME....., and as such are unnecessary. Unless of course you fervently believe that we have all waited since birth for your arrival. There are good reasons to encourage people not to start duplicate threads, I doubt anyone would disagree with that. Though recently my feeling has been that probably there needs to be some sort of re-organising of the forum, some kind of major merging and reclassifying if all the info that is here is ever again to be easily available.
But I could post links here to several threads just from the last couple of days that would fail to meet the standards that have been applied to Lynx. And that' s not to mention all the threads that are started in the wrong sections; always, I think, a more egregious example of laziness and discourtesy than any repost or repeat.

i can find the mob mentality on here very distasteful and cowardly

there are a lot of people who wont put their heads above the parapet, until they feel there is a safety in numbers and then they all pile in

one of the things i most like about this place is the large number of intelligent freethinkers, though this seems to be reducing as the population grows

i like the way the forum now suggests other threads that may be relevant before a new one is started, perhaps it needs to also compare similar terms, eg rigid, stiff, flex etc

though not being a programmer i am not sure how this might work and possibly if it was left open to the members then dj would become synonymous with cunt (probably happened already)

there are a number of people who have been the forum punchbag at various times, though raff seems to have been a regular one for a long time

as i have said previously i find him socially awkward (and i was pretty hideous to him to start with) he is not someone i'd call to go for a coffee with but the continual kicking he receives here is grim to witness

however i too find him frustrating, and raff does not seem to have progressed in his forum use since his early posts

though i dont see his internet naivety is as bad as paul michel who seemed to harbour a lot of really quite offensive viewpoints

...keeping threads compiled is worthwhile...

And for a topic like this, well, the title is so specific that if someone was trying to search for something, if would be pretty clear to see what is actually here, and I can't really see how they could get that badly derailed. In fact, if you search for rim rigidity, this is the only result... badly title threads is more of an issue as then the titles can't be used as a decent reference point.

If we took the alternative (keeping everything on existing threads where possible) to the extreme, we end up with stupidly long threads, which is equally useless and even harder to search...

What probably does actually make it harder to find real info about topics is where threads get sidetracked by a discussion like this (for which I am as guilty as anyone), as all this shit has to be scrolled through to get to anything useful...

Also if the first post in reply just said this has been covered here (link) and no one else posted then the new thread wouldn't clog up the search function.

Oh and while I think about it the search should have some easy way of excluding any sale threads.

isn't a forum supposed to be a group of people with same interest sharing ideas/thoughts. Seems to me that people just seem to be getting frustrated over, what are in the big scheme of things, very minor details.

If you are not enjoying it then maybe don't use it and use some other forum where everything is perfect and everyone abides by your rules?

Of course, if you actually prefer to remain an anonymous character, there probably won't be a need to answer. there are loads of great things about this forum.

One of them is the amount of useful information and number of helpful ppl. I've learnt almost as much from her as from sheldon. Duplication makes searching a mission. So it's fair for someone to complain about it.

Another is that the forum is self-moderating. Threads like these are kinda part of that. So it's really not a case of goin somewhere else.

Anyway, I've just come in from doing some back-breaking garden maintenance/demolition. I'm going to have a slight break, then head back out to finish it off. Then back inside for a shower some Grenadian rum mixed with fizzy lemonade, then get down to business (lets say its Scrabble) with my friend, who's currently making some nosh. After that, an afternoon snooze, then maybe a movie later (with said friend).

All to avoid the heat of 2-4pm. Only mad dogs and English men go out in the midday sun.

I've been admonished by two people that I respect, Nhatt and wiganwill, and therefore have stated clearly my concerns....and that will be that. I won't bother with lynx ever again.

If there was ganging up on him, I wasn't aware of it. Its clear from my own forum tastes, that I ignore many sections on here. Had I known that he had been picked on elsewhere, I would have approached this all very differently.
