Cheers I'll take a look at Poundland, decent tip, as I'm starting to see how easy it is to spend money on it!
R.e. trees I'm putting in a couple dwarfs, Russets (greatest apple of all time imo) and a Cox variety.
Ours is also half a plot but due to all the clearing I've done more like 2/3rds really

I'm definitely planning to produce booze from ours, I'm partial to a bit of home-brewing.
Beer - raspberry sour, wine with grapes from the vine, we've got sloes at the back, and eventually cider.

I don't know if you are in or around London but I have a nifty cider press you can borrow if you get hold of decent apples and pears. Poundland also do onion sets, seed potatoes etc. But choose carefully cos some of them are crap but some are perfectly fine.
I got my asparagus crowns off eBay. They were a quid each or something - well worth the investment.
Also with the trees check if they are self fertilizing or not.

nifty cider press
Got a picture? Had so many apples last year, might give this a go if I can buy a little press (not in The London) so good to know what to look for.

Yesterday, I spent another day burning seemingly endless piles of rotten wood left by the previous fella. We've got two beds in now, potatoes, cabbage, cauliflower and broccoli sewn. Beans, peas and squash seeding at home, ready for me to clear another couple of beds.
Back down tomorrow afternoon to tackle everything else with a strimmer which is gonna be a workout, as its completely grown over in places. Very happy we got this plot, I'd recommended it to anyone (who has the time!).

Spent the weekend sorting out the greenhouse, replaced any missing glass, repaired the door, all with stuff left behind by the previous guy and plenty of gorilla tape!

Looks good, mine is on the go (not allotment tho) here:
Amen to this. One of the joys of having an allotment was the crop of asparagus every spring. You can crop in the first couple of years, but just very lightly.
