It’s finally happened my greenhouse tomatoes finally got blight. I didn’t chop off all the foliage I needed to and the inevitable happened.

Ha, I love the stuff.
Although I very nearly called the doctors the other day as I forgot I’d eaten a couple when pissed and thought I was pissing blood. Yay middle age.

We've all been there.

Realseeds are amazing, all my favourites have come from them with the exception of a nice yellow plum cherry tom my wife planted this year. I have also had some stinkers, mind, such as a Strathclyde kale which never did well on my plot, but I suppose that is the nature of heirloom plants - they are adapted to particular soils and climes.
I have really enjoyed their Huazontl 'aztec broccoli' which is a goosefoot similar to 'fat hen' - tender spears of flowerbuds which steam like asparagus and taste like a cross between spinach and quinoa. Really easy to grow and highly productive.

I have fewer slug problems since starting raised beds, snails probably worse. However that's more correlated with me building a mini greenhouse to slot over the tomato bed, they love that thing.

The farmer(who’s our workshop landlord) has offered me space on the benches in his 200ft polytunnel over winter. Will certainly be handy come Jan/feb when I start germinating stuff but anything worth getting going at this point?
I’m sure it’ll drop below freezing in there but presumably that cover and warmer daytime temps in there will be of some use… -

Wow, that's lovely! I haven't seen a slow worm in years.

We've had three on the plot since we took it on earlier this year, must be a great habitat for them.

They love compost heaps, lots of bugs to eat and I think the warmth from decomposition is to their liking, too.
There is a load of rubble at the back of my neighbour's plot, which frogs are super into. They also hide at/in the foot of the brick wall at the back of mine.

Wind last night has snapped off a few of my Xmas spuds close to the base. Both got a leaf or tow still attached- likely to survive? They’ve been in a while so well established and mounded.

Reckon they'll be fine just a bit smaller maybe?

What you going to do if the frost hits them? Just earth them to the top?

Another post apocalyptic scene at plot 1. All my raised beds are rotten. So off they go to that pallet pile in the sky

Well they’re autumn planting spuds so hopefully they’ll be fairly hardy, maybe I’ll give them a barrow of woodchip mulch tomorrow to keep them cosy.
They’ve been mounded a couple of times already so thinking they’re pretty sturdy by now. Can fashion something to keep the wind at bay :) -

In other news, I need some new winter boots or something for the allotment. I’ve got wellies for when it’s really soggy but in the market for something for autumn/winter.
I’d rather slip ons like ankle wellies/mucking out boots rather than work boots. Preferably fleece lined as I always have cold feet. No need for anything fancy with hipster tax but if anyone has a go-to cheap and cosy option I’d love to know!

I was looking at those but I’d want my ankles covered. Also browsing quilted overalls currently. Thankfully there’s no heavy work to deal with this winter, just one more cubic meter of soil and then again when the manure gets delivered.
These look nifty

Dirty Harry’s in Brighton sometimes have carrhart oil rigger suits. They’re fucking brilliant even if it does feel a bit like Howard Moon’s utility suit

Good shout for allotment duties. Easy to slip on and off.
I have Dexter boots. Like a Chelsea boot but for horses
God damn beetroot is rank.
Thankfully my partner didn’t grow too much of it.
