Went up today and built a little raised bed for the kids, eldest has been asking for ages. Put in some strawberries, lettuce and beetroot.
Stuck in 10 Brussels sprouts and three 9 star perennial broccoli plants. Have a couple more to go in but need to find a space.

Made a start on the fruit bed. Digging in the sun today was satisfying but tough. Got about 1/3 of the way thru it. It’s gonna be bloody massive, much bigger than I thought.
Before n after(yes I should have taken the pic from the same spot).

Bit late, but our raspberries are on the shaded side right up against the fence partially shaded by neighbours trees.
Raspberries canes grow tall.
I totally neglect them and still get fruit, so I'd choose them for the back and the least sunny spot.
I try and keep our blueberries in the sunniest spot.
Remember to plan in how you're going to net the area.

Great advice thanks! Was trying to work out what order to plant everything.
In my experience blueberries don’t get super tall either so another reason for them to be up front. The front of the bed gets the sun most of the day but the back is shaded until early afternoon.Need to measure the width of the bed(it’s def more than the 2m I predicted) but I think it’ll be something like:
3x blueberry
2x currant
4x raspberry
Per row, based on recommended spacing I’ve seen..I guess netting them should be as easy as draping fine mesh over each hurdle?

I guess you know blueberries need acid soil? We have raspberries and I built a frame of cheap wood to throw the netting over.

Yup, have had them on the balcony for years. Big trench and a few big bags of ericaceous should do the trick..

Half of our allotment is dedicated to plants for bees and to encourage wildlife. Dug a large water tank into the ground to make a pond a couple of years ago, added some plants and did some light maintenance and it is full of life, found our first frog in it the other day. Very worthwhile and easy addition if you have the space.

2.5x8.2m bed unlocked. Well chuffed.
As much as I’d love nice big chestnut posts as per @ColinTheBald instructions the poles from my knackered polytunnel will suffice for this year.
Might pop up to garden club at Crews Hill tomorrow to eye up some fruit bushes.

Soon to be a paid up member, sharing a plot with some friends. It's a bit overgrown but there's two covered beds and two that need a little work, as well as a shed and a fruit cage.
What's not too late to get in? Main crop potatoes? We'd already sown some pumpkins from seed at home so those can go in.

Direct sow (sew?) French Beans & Runner Beans, radishes, beetroot, spring onions for next year. Loads you can do, enjoy.

That looks like a lovely plot! Enjoy :)
Just whack everything in and see what happens.
You might be able to scrounge some spare tomato and cucumber plants off your new neighbours. 3/4 of our first seasons plants were donated to help us get started.
I’d be tempted to strim the whole plot, you might find the edges of other beds that can be easily rejuvenated as well. -

I need to put mine in when back. Also some more tomato's. It's early, loads of time for everything.

Bit annoyed at myself for planting my crown prince squash out too quickly, they seem to be struggling in so much sun. Hopefully they pull through.

This thread is buzzing, good work everyone. I love seeing progress and the literal fruits of labour so thank you all for sharing.
We had a big weeding and watering sesh yesterday and my son mastered ‘Zen and the art of Allotmenting’

At home my salad bed has been a complete winner, can’t move for lettuce. Strawberries also went in the other bed I was supposed to dismantle to build a pond, a job for winter now.

Fruit is go.
Want to make the most of the space under/between the rows as currently feels like a lot of space taken up for the fruit.
Got a bit of chive, mint and oregano under the currants and raspberries but more suggestions welcome, especially for around the blueberries.

Amazing! Did you finally find a use for the trampoline frame, or is that the knackered polytunnel frame?

Went up to the plot for a little while. Threw some water about and found a few spaces to transplant some lettuce and beetroot seedlings. Onions and garlic looking good.

The bulbs are very small compared to normal garlic but it's quite vigorous so if you leave it you'll have a good patch in a year or so and can harvest the leaves for wild garlic pesto etc. Very tasty.
