  • Finally back on the plots after months of stress-distraction-neglect and it’s so good to get into things again:)

  • Finally told my wife about our (her) cut flower plot. She seemed quite keen on the idea. Need to fast forward about 3 years when it’s full of peony’s

  • A new colour of poppy has appeared.
We planted tons when we first got the plot a couple of years back. Looks like they’re popping up in all the random spots this year which was what we were hoping for.

  • I dumped these tulips on the plot a few years ago after they exhausted their containers at home - loving their retirement ...

  • Does anyone have a semi-permanent/decorative bed?
My partner has ideas for a Mediterranean bed with some big pots and eventually a pergola for a grape vine. Got a bed about 3x3m. Would still be for veg and herbs, not flowers or seating.

Worth doing(we have the space) or best off keeping everything flexible? Would just need a brick path or a few stepping stones to split it in half and put a big pot in the middle.
Oh and chimeneas, worth it or nah? B&Q has a wee one for £40 but mixed reviews.

  • Just met my plot neighbour. Think she's one of the "elders" I've been warned about. She immediately told me off for eating the spring onions that were on my plot because she grew them. Not sure why she's thinks she can just grow wherever she wants and expect me to be mystic meg and to leave stuff for her to harvest. When I mentioned I was leaving the onions which have flowered because the bees like them she replied with "your plot is not for the bees'. Oh boy, we are not going to get along.

  • Yikes :(

Though potentially an odd-couple BBC4 comedy in the making here.

  • The only thing I don't miss about having an allotment, is the petty allotment society politics and feuds.

  • Tell her to get in the bin. If she planted the onions she should have pulled them up before you moved onto the plot. If it’s on yours, it’s yours.

We didn’t have immediate neighbours for our first couple of years, only got 1 now. She’s a very strict Christian though so will be fun to see her reaction to my partners summer gardening attire.

Our opposite neighbours only come twice a year at most. Toying with the idea of pruning the trees on their plot as they’re blocking my light significantly and they definitely won’t do it.

  • I told her I ate them and they were delicious, she was adamant they weren't ready yet and that I should have left them for when she wanted them, silly bint. Hopefully our paths won't cross too often, I was only there to quickly fix something I spotted as I walked past at lunch. I haven't seen her there any of the other times I've been.

  • I hope it involves a classic of the genre Cradle Of Filth tee

  • We have a slightly raised pergola for sitting and eating with a little alpine rockery and a pond off to one side. Is nice.

  • Nah, that would be my choice tbf!
Might see if I can find some particularly offensive ones.

Lizzie is all about microbikinis for the allotment in summer.
Seeing as we don’t have a garden it’s fair enough really as she doesn’t particularly enjoy sunbathing in London parks so it’s the obvious choice.
No one else has ever questioned it and the King of the Site plods around in his budgie smugglers and wellies in summer so there’s precedent at least ;) we’ve got a big beach windbreak we could put up for a bit of extra privacy but never bothered before.

  • Sounds ace, we got a bit of a seating area at the back by the hammock but we just liked the idea of a more permanent bed to establish a few things.
Rockery with some herbs and alpine strawberries sounds ace, will see what I can do for some rocks…

  • Finally, a bean!

Strobgly worded email to the committee asking for subs discount per sq yd that you can't grow in should sort it.

  • The only thing I don't miss about having an allotment, is the petty allotment society politics and feuds

Can I politely ask you to leave this allotment sub forum as you are currently NOT an allotment holder.
This is a forum for Allotment holders and rules are rules.
Please regard this as your first warning.

  • Warning noted. Please can I have a copy of the rules to ensure I don't transgress again?

    Thank you.

  • A copy of the site rules are available 'online' if you have a computor machine for the cost of 50 shillings.

  • Quite glad our allotment doesn't have an 'association' and is run by the council (though vaguely frustrated by the council). Folk I've met up our plot are lovely. From Doug who gave me some carrots and cucumbers the first time I went up my plot, Trev who offered me a quarter of his plot to grow pumpkins on (he has at least two plots), the polish couple next to us who let our kids pick their red/blackcurrants and gave me a cold beer on a hot day, Marlon who introduced me to callaloo and grew a massive marijuana plant (didn't share). All friendly good eggs.

  • one of my immediate allotment neighbours grumbles about our association quite a bit, but really its just because theyve asked him to stop using a plot to store junk on. I've not seen the one in question, but he has at least 8 broken lawnmowers on the two plots he has by us...

  • Ours is council run and pretty laid back.
There’s a couple of people who’ve been there longer than most who are the go between for the allotment officer and everyone on site.
Aside from that it’s just an annual inspection and that’s about it.
As there’s still so many abandoned plots despite the waiting list I think we can all do as we please as at least we’re there working our plots as best we can.
Think of it as non-league allotmenting but we’ve all got a full size pitch ;)

Some beans and strawbs went in after work today.
