  • I planted some leeks last year in September/October. Any idea when they will be ready?

They still look a bit small and haven’t flowered

  • You can eat them small.

Once they start to flower they're past eating as they go woody. I don't wait for mine to match supermarket sizes.

  • I’ll start pulling them up. I wasn’t sure if the winter weather would make them grow slower or something

  • They should grow some more before flowering as it warms up a bit, no rush to harvest them just yet if you don't need the space for other planting.

  • Well I’m concerned they’re going to flower and then be useless

  • Not useless if they do, seeds = more Leeks.

  • I think there may be a few bits of sheds and polytunnels being relocated on our plot today 🌪

  • Yup, was thinking the same. Slightly worried my mesh cloches may get blown away.

  • It’s times like these I’m pleased my shed weighs a lot

  • my mesh cloches may get blown away

Well that big one on the Greenwich Peninsula is taking a battering 😯

  • Went up to check today. Cloches and mesh all still in place but a slab of corrugated roof had fallen on my garlic and a not-very-full compost bin had gone for a wander. Lost the little front door bit but it might turn up. Others weren’t so lucky.

  • Went to the plot to grab some leeks this afternoon. Absolute carnage down there.

Green houses upside down! Felt bad for peeps

  • Our neighbours polytunnel frame had torn through their fence and into our greenhouse. Third time it’s escaped and ended up on our plot - first time there’s been any damage which I guess is lucky, but if they reinstall it [badly] I will angle grind it into drinking straws

  • Our neighbours green house looked like it was upside down

  • Anyone planted anything yet?

  • Moved onions from old plot to the new one last weekend, Jerusalem artichoke are in as are broad beans. Am I too late for garlic?

  • Am I too late for garlic?

    Not too late iirc.

  • No garlic is still good. I’m a bit behind as ground has been too frozen/wet at weekends recently. Some garlic went in last w/e, the rest will go in this w/e, plus broad beans, maybe some 1st early potatoes, although that might be stretching things and will wait for the one after.

  • Had a few hours at the plot yesterday. Broad Beans in, 2 varieties Super Aquadulce & Ratio

  • Took your advice and bought some broad beam seeds. Got them in today.

  • That’s not the broad beans, right?

  • Feels early but had to for various reasons… Put in some early potatoes and scond early potatoes; have garlic, shallots and onions overwintering and just put in some some garlic from seed.

  • That’s the raspberries I moved so at least some of them are striking. I’ve put them in rows. Staked at either end and wire running between the posts to keep them organised.

I’ve got some first earlies to chit in the garage. So will put them in soon.

  • Finally made it to the plot post storm today(I’ve been lazy/busy).
    Where’s my polytunnel?

  • Oh wait, there it is. About 300m away and well and truly knackered.
