Olaf, I'm based south west, stockwell.. I'm working in camden, Mon-Wed this week so can grab from you in the evening, let me know where's best to meet up
Olaf I've only got a balcony, south facing so gets lots of sun, and I'm looking to restock the greenery that lives there, so if they'll survive the winter out there, then yeah I'll take a plant off you as well
Richie I'll take what you've got off your hands as well. Can meet up at south's tomorrow if you're coming or later on in the week..
thank you both

You can either pick up the chilis from central London (victoria) or Mortlake. I guess the first might be easier. Let me know. I can bring a plant along too. It might be good to bring it in when it gets too cold (they don't take up much space). Let me know what is best.

Damn you tomto blight! Had to chuck about 20kg of tomatoes at the weekend :(
First time I'd had it. I blame the crap summer (that and where I planted them).

Tell me about it! Seems it ravaged it's way through most of the plots at our allotment.
Also any suggestions for imaginative, freezable courgette/marrow recipes are welcome. We have 'a lot'...

gonna resurrect this and ask before I post up a seperate thread.
Looking to make some chilli oil, and was offered some from an old friend. Thought I was going to get loads, and got a handful. Anyone got an exceedingly bumper crop, they want to share with me.
let me know..
I might have some going in a few weeks. My plants are starting to flower again and if they all succeed then I'll have a lot more than I need!
I'll message you once they're ready to see if you still want them.

I've never really had a glut of courgettes as I only grow a plant or two (that does me) but I have wondered about this and have thought about courgette jam, having seen afew recipies. I've thought about it as it appeals and semi-disgusts me at the same time. I can't see how it'll be nice, like making jam out of potatoes or something but this one looked appealing: http://tigressinajam.blogspot.com/2010/07/lemon-squash-jam.html
As do the various courgette & pineapple jam recipes. Obviously I can't vouch for any of them.
If that doesn't tickle your fancy try a chutney. I got a bag od courgettes from a colleague last year and tried this: http://www.rivercottage.net/users/Pam%20the%20Jam/blog/1281015134-courgette-aid-and-jam-fest/
Was good (although I didn't have much as I gave most away).

Has anybody had luck planting supermarket garlic?
Want to stick some in for next year but it seems that the garden centres are all out. -
• #236
i have never planted garlic in my garden, apparently the scent keeps mozzies away during the summer..
i reckon it is worth a go with some supermarket stuff in a seed tray, try and as get as fresh as possible, break bulb up without damaging any of the cloves, plant out tips showing in good compost over winter somewhere cool but away from frost,
plant out march/april in well prepared soil, have fleece or cloches on stand in case of any cold nights, water during dry spells to get a good crop, havest between july and sept, that's what my aunt in italy would say :)
good luck

Yes just make sure it gets cold enough over winter some say freezing it before planting out in october is best. -
• #238
It should get cold enough - I'm in Poland so the frost can be very heavy, hopefully it won't get too cold for it.
Just harvested the last of my sweetcorn from my MILs house. I'm very suprised by the height of the jerusalem artichokes - more than 3 times the heigth of the sweetcorn. They are obviously not ready yet though. Anybody know why they still don't have flowers? I heard that some varieties don't flower under certain circumstances but have no idea if it is just too early or if I am one of those!
This is my allotment for next year, I spent the last few weekends digging out 3 beds - This one should end up fully in my control so I will be able to do anything I want. Really looking forward to having loads of nice veg next year.

not really an allotment request more of a houseplant one. Need a couple of those plant saucers about 28cm in diameter, if you've got any and don't mind letting me have them would be grateful.
I'm based south by the way..

I don't want to rain on your parade, but generally if you're getting an allotment it means someone has been neglecting theirs so the condition will mean it's somewhat overgrown.

I'm not in London, I'm in Basildon, Essex. been waiting ~4 years
I am prepared for the worst, glad I'm getting it now, work it over and plant some hardy stuff -
• #246
^a fellow Basildonian. where's the allotment? is it the ones near outens on cranes farm road?
-
• #247
You a local lad too?
Not sure on location, there are 2 council ones, 1 in wickford and 1 down the road from the powerhouse pub (old skool I know)
Hoping for the Vange one, I'm based in Laindon. -
• #248
Not anymore but born and raised there, have lived in Noak Bridge, Fryerns, Whitmore Way, Clay hill road (basildon end), laindon high road and as a wee baby Alcatraz as well.
Think I know the vange allotments actually. wonder how they fare with the local kids and vandalism... my cousins lived down there in the 90s and it was rough as arseholes, can't imagine it's got any better since.

It's fenced off and you need a key to get in, so hopefully the scum bags don't bother.
Id love to get out of here but I work at the hospital so no point

Hello again,
I officially have an allotment.
30sq meters, unused area.
Gonna be a testing year, going for spuds the first year, just to get the ground going.
Also some raised beds for tomatoes and some pots for herbs.
I've got a handful of dried arse-kickers left, corny
