Dragged my fat carcass round Hong Kong Island after two months off the bike.
1,800 metres of climbing in 70km.
I need to lose 10kg to ride here. Not looking forward to when it gets hot.

Pfft, I'm more of a runner anyway. Race you 5k?

Had a nice 20 mile early morning ride out to the Castle of Mey (Caithness), zero degrees and spring sunshine just awesome.

Sure. I'll be the one on the bike waiting for you at the end of it. :)
Out of curiosity what's your 5k run PB?

What about you? I'm sure you said you were into Tri back in Aus.

I did an audax of the 200k variety. Good chats with a super-diverse bunch of people. The tandem ridden by an argumentative Gordie and Dutchman was entertaining.
Ate 'nuff cake. Actually I didn't eat enough cake for the bit between 180-190k (where I completely hit the wall only to be rescued by a caffeine gel and some HTFU).
I noticed someone had dropped their Co-codamol at the first control so yeah, amateur doping has reached UK audax. Scumbags!

No idea, but I'm sure it's not that fast. Last out of the water, pass everyone on the bike, lose half the field during the run was my style. I never took the swim or run very seriously, it was all about the bike racing.

Codeine and paracetamol are hardly performance enhancing. I'd be a bit worried following them though as the codeine can make you a bit dopey.

Took the new (to me) Witcomb out for its maiden voyage this afternoon. 33 miles from Ely up to Denver Sluice and back, so a photo of the bike outside a pumping station seemed appropriate. No mechanical problems, so all is well.

62km out and back into the Kent lanes.
Layhams, Heisers, Beddlestead, Downe then back.
5kph slower than the end of last summer. 1kph slower for every excess kg I'm carrying.
Have 5kg extra weight (the dreaded visceral fat) that I need to shake.
Forgot overshoes, freezing feet but the extra fat was surprisingly good at keeping me warm.
7/10 would ride again. Lanes in great condition. Getting my mojo back.

Nice bike, what did I miss? I thought you had the Elephant and Oak?
-
• #8589
Elephant a touring bike, Oak an audax bike (still need to get the paint over to Matt), and the Genesis a road bike.

73 miles of Chilterns. Absolutely grey, absolutely frigid. Spotted @arup.
Caught out by the temps - long sleeve base, pro team jacket and castelli wind stopper over the top was just about enough to keep me from jacking it in. Lack of deep winter gloves and overshoes was a tactical error that, had it really rained like they said it was going to, could have ended the ride. Mercifully it held off and we finished things up.

Should have gone to Oxford. Was like the Côte d'Azur.

Almost echo my Henley loops in December, got a route for this?

Did you do the 200? Strong work. I was riding fixed - left leg was pretty twingey by the end so very glad I wasn't out for the long haul.
-
• #8596
Yes was good and my knees are holding.

Rowing is good you go in straight line Ed. Here is the pizza run.

Did my first audax. 200km of flat Lincolnshire roads, but with added hellish head breezes on neverendless soul destroying straight stretches out towards the coast. Zero prep but it was a piece of piss even though I was carrying way too much heavy stuff and having some borderline Paula Radcliffe moments. I had to stop and make sure I hadn't followed through at one point. Saw someone with LMNH branding on their something or other.
Shotgun your 808s ;)
Managed to get out on a longish ride for the first time in ages this evening, only 45 miles but not bad for a Friday evening after work, heading from marlow, up to Christmas common to check out the Xmas trees, then down into henley and then along a fairly flat route to the inlaws. The temperature dropped off pretty rapidly and what was pretty comfortable with not shoe covers and standard above the knee shorts meant I couldn't feel my feet by the time I got in!
