  • Went on my tri club's "intro ride" which you're encouraged to do to make sure you have the group riding skills for the proper club rides. For the record I like running, swimming and cycling but triathlons don't really float my boat.

A fairly fun 40-odd miles to Esher and back, incorporating a couple of Richmond Park loops but by christ my fingers were in pain. I accidentally had a spare pair of gloves in my gilet pocket so I doubled up after a while. At one point my left hand was so numb I couldn't push my left gear lever to shift up so I had to get my right hand across and pull it.

We stopped at Giro in Esher, which I'd never been to before. Nice place with good coffee. Also forgot my water bottle and so I went to buy a bottle of water from Tesco and shoved it in my cage. It's still there now, unopened.

  • Went down to Ashdown Forest via biggin hill / edenbridge. The freezing fog through that first bit was brutal, could only see about 100m! Knackered the elevation data on my Garmin too annoyingly.
I will mostly be sitting for the rest of the day until it's bed time.

  • Another weekend, another ride, this time I head out from Oval to Biggin Hill using some of the Dulwich Paragon route, it was far too warm as well which is a little annoying but not uncomfortably so.

Next time I need to bring my cycling cap, riding toward the sun was not pleasant.

Not too keen on the return legs, but was fun and a nice change to riding in miserable day to boot.

    8/10 would bang.

  • Lovely pic, Ed.

It doesn't really show how steep that road is going to get though, does it.

  • Yeah I kinda found out the hard way.

Saw the sign "Low Gear" further up before the corkscrew, then suddenly realised that also applied to bicycle as well.

  • What hill is that? Looks nice / highly unpleasant / intriguing

  • The hill between Downe and Cudham, heading south east towards Cudham. Not sure what it's called.

  • I call it 'the cunt'.

  • That looks rather unpleasant. Will probably have to give it a go nonetheless

  • Bloody windy today! Rode as far as I could keep up my will & good mood against the wind (abt 33k) and then some more, relaxed on the big ring on the way back. Some stretches of seriously gusty sidewind with cars passing were erm, interesting. Noticable difference in power compared to 'peak training level' last summer! https://www.strava.com/activities/239082654

  • awful bar wrapping technique!

  • Me too, to its face.

  • Got fresh Fizik now which look real nice.

  • went and battled the wind today as well..you know its pretty hardcore out there when a metal lampost outside your house is swaying with the gusts. Going east was good fun, was easy going over 20mph, reached 43 at one point on a minus 2-3% gradient but ran out of gearing and the cadence must have been nearly 130 going by calcs of 52x12. Going back the other way not so fun with major buffeting it was a struggle to do 15. https://www.strava.com/activities/239138559/segments/5627356217

  • 15mph headwind and -1 windchill, frozen

  • Early morning ride to get some miles in before a family day.
2hours later find 20m sheet of frozen water main leakage. Last recorded garmin speed was 32mph. Ice sheet minimised road rash and bike fine despite two 360 rotations. Assos winter bibs not so fine.

  • 151.1 K ride with Mrs Davros, just to complete the Strava challenge. Tough fucking headwind !!!

  • 85k around New Forest this morning. Highlights included:

    • Filtering through a pack of cattle being taken from one field to another.
    • Coming so, so close to stacking it on a wet cattle-grid. Felt like I was 45deg to the floor before I managed to save it. With gatorskins as well...
  • Decided to take advantage of the tailwind and planned on heading to Ipswich at a decent pace with Joeboat. All going well for the first 55miles, until the Garmin decided that taking us through a private airfield was a good idea. Then across a farmers field that was completely bogged us down. A slight detour via Panfield's finest BP jetwash to get rid of the tonnes of mud, leaves and horseshit then we were back on our way.
Annoyingly, the Garmin tried to do this again to us twice, and it was getting pretty bloody cold so we sacked off Ipswich and headed to Colchester instead. In hindsight, it was probably as far either way. Oh, and I forgot to start recording again at one point so missed about 4miles off.
