  • Both times this weekend that I was planning a big ride I managed to leave my flat just in time to catch a f-ckin downpour, leading to me having to cut the ride short as I thought I was going to perish. Obviously, once I'd got home and showered / warmed up, it was dry outside.

Obviously the big man upstairs is not happy with me.

  • Sat - wet commute, with stop at eco festival to buy honey
Sun - wet family ride to coffeefix and back
Today - Dry & sunny Rhyl Marshes mtb pump & bmx race track, a lap of the road circuit on bmx, then pie n chips before heading to Chester bmx pump track

    all very different, all ace

  • Only ride of the long weekend was the LFGSS Vintage ride to Cambridge with mattioats, Hefty & cjmiska. Great weather, great company and great route. No punctures and a pace of 27kmh was fairly swift for my old bike.
Good beer at the Square & Compasses in Great Shelford too.
    Good to meet you lads.

Was supposed to do an out and back to Southend today however have crook guts. Looking out te window, this was a good thing.

  • After spending all day on Sunday haring round Snetterton, desperately seeking out every tenth of a second, I decided a more leisurely approach to life was required today. But it also occurred to me that while I'd done a few century rides during sportives, I'd never done a solo century. So, heading north into the wind to start off with, I headed off to Norfolk and some quiet country lanes.

After the pancake-flat Fens over to Mildenhall and north from there, the terrain changed to gentle rolling hills. Which was nice. And some pleasingly quiet roads. Quiet enough to take a look-it's-ironic picture of the Winter Trainer, today's choice of bike given the threat of rain and the fact that it happened to be the bike ready to go in the hallway which wasn't a Brompton.

Up to RAF Marham, across to Kings Lynn, and then down via Downham Market and Denver Sluice. All-in-all, a Good Day Out.

Out and back with Vunugu (his garmin stats)
    Dodged rain clouds,
Haddock and chips by the sea..
    Solid day in the saddle.

  • After two gorgeous dry days riding lovely smooth roads (and brutal cobbles) in Flanders, I came home and did some miles on the horrendous roads of Hertfordshire in the horrible rain.

    And it was still great.

  • good efforts regulars.
closed road relay race tonight. fun.
the hour crit race was only for the headstrong, 40 mph on wet oily towncentre roads, ace watching

  • I did a sort of lame sportive for quite a good cause (a UNICEF thingy through work, pre-sponsored so free!). Started and finished at Crystal Palace FC. Very well sign-posted and organised, and everyone was super cheery despite the underwhelming weather but I happen to know the lanes in that area – it was basically down to Turners Hill via Farthing Downs, nipping into the Ashdown and back. But it mostly stuck to the B-roads so it was a shame to miss the climb through Farthing Downs, Cogman's Lane, all sorts of missed opportunities for great lanes. Things got a bit Wacky Races at that sharp left on Hilltop Road, saw 4 people go down in the space of about 30 seconds. I guess if you don't know it and it's wet it's fairly treacherous and I know it's got the best of a few good riders on here. Poor bastards. Anyway it was a sort of bumpy 85 miles, felt pretty good on the SS but was not very happy to see Titsey Hill at mile 60. No pictures because rain :(

  • However, it was fucking lovely and because I got out early enough, I beat all the crowds. Not a bad route. Road surfaces appalling.

You know the road when you exit Richmond Park via Ham Gate Ave? if you carry on straight on via Ham Common to Lock Road, through the footpath at the T junction, it'll take you to Teddington footbridge.

You'll have to walk on the bridge, but it might give you some idea of alternative route that'll take you through Bushy Park instead of bypassing it.

  • Got out for a cheeky ~280 on Sunday.

  • The only thing cheeky about it is your phrasing.

  • The wife is doing the Celtman iron distance triathlon next month so we were up in Scotland doing a recce of the route.

    Went something like this: http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/celtman-recce-1#

The main roads in Scotland are surprisingly fixed friendly, which was nice.

Need to go left on the A25 and then up Whitedown lane for maximum brutality

Was only a quick stop there but will keep me eyes Peeled a la Shaw Taylor.

  • The only thing cheeky about it is your phrasing.

I just uploaded the Garmin and it was closer to 298. Bit pissed I didn't go the extra couple of miles.

  • Wat?

    298 ... Miles ?

  • Oh yeah, forgot that bit. Just thought I'd pop up to Scotland for the day.

  • Some people are insufferable.

    feels crap after 60 miles

First TT over 10 miles, i thought i'd step up the distance a bit.

Great day in the saddle, lots learnt, probably under did it on the power output, but good to get around comfortably, rather than go too hard and die on the final lap!

already signed up to another one in a couple of months, hopefully i'll get closer to 4.30 next time!

Great training for Ironman (i think) and a real confidence booster that i can ride fast for a long way!
