There were flat sections where it was effortless to bang along at 22mph+
Did you get the lovely dystopian vibes I often do around Seasalter Road and into F'sham? Especially just before the bit with raised banks to keep side-winds off the roads. Just so many tiny little abandoned shacks and rusty cars.

Seasalter, I remember that name. Spent a year or so in that area living on a shoestring budget (this was before Whitstable was 'discovered' by London types and became well pricey) and yeah it does have that edge-of-civilisation feel you also get on the Isle of Portland, Anglesey, bits of the Essex coast etc

Yeah its a bit dishevelled along there in places. Unsurprisingly though the properties on the seafront are worth a fortune and then there's "The Sportsman" which is a Michelin Starred restaurant so despite its shabby appearance there is some dosh around there.

Yeah the marshes there when the mist comes in are spooky.
Will be having a little ride from Whitstable to Margate with a few mates on Sunday if anyone in the area fancies tagging along. Will involve a few stops for liquid carbs. -

Saw a massive crew of Pretorius (sp?) riders out in Essex today. Tempted to give them a go one day. They seem a bit anal about group riding rules though judging by their website.
Does anyone here ride with them? What's it like?

I've ridden with them a couple of times, they're great, nice guys, pace is fairly good, no problems at all. Certainly no one screaming rules at you, just don't be a knob and you'll be fine

Having a fee rules for group rides makes sense, as it should ensure the safety of the group and minimise incidents.
Back in the day, you'd get educated about group riding on your first few club runs, but the number of people who come into cycling via that route is diminishing. Therefore, laying down some rules up front should help those joining the rides.
I'll go back to being a grumpy old man now.

^^ ^^^ I definitely agree it's good to have a few rules laid out, especially for those that are new to group riding. Just not if it's like riding with a load of little Hitlers.

65 miles on the tt bike, feeling pretty good and even got a few top 10s on hills :)
Followed by 10 miles running at tempo, feeling tired but pretty satisfied that ironman training is still heading in the right direction!

Fees for group rides? What's the world coming to? :)

Go out for a ride with them Jim. It's a good bunch, with an awesome cafe at the end of the ride.

48 miles in the beautiful Somerset countryside in the beautiful sun, ended no more than 100 metres from home by sliding out on a load of gravel and doing my knee. Fantastic.

This weekends riding involved a crit race, my first one ever. Unfortunately due to riding there was no time to take photos of the wheel in front. I managed to keep up with the main group but my lack of experience meant I wasn't ready to pounce for the final sprint. Lesson learnt & 11th overall, everything went better than expected.

20km of gravel, 30km of tarmac - unbelieveable rewarding

I cycled to Herne Hill and back.
The outward journey was led by Hoke and via Tower Bridge.
I came home on my own via London Bridge.(Seeing that during the week I did Blackfriars Bridge to get to Ladies drinks, it is a bit like my version of the Bridges ride.)
Anyway, just shy of 32 miles cycled today. The numbers are going up!

My dad came down for his 70th birthday and we spent a couple of hours riding around Richmond Park. I don't think he has been there before and it has been over 20 years since we rode a bike together. Was a lovely day for it, too.

Rode the spiral ride solo this afternoon.
Got the train out to Sidcup and started at the station there.
My impressions:
It's a navigational mind fuck. Added an extra 5 or so km's on just going the wrong way then back tracking.
No sooner have you got up to speed than you're thwarted by traffic lights.
Feel like I've smoked a pack of 20.
Grass pyramids at Northolt and White Heart Lane were highlights.
Went past my house with 50 km's to go and felt like bailing.
Put the bib shorts on for the first time this spring and got some colour in my pasty legs.
Saw what I assume was the after match from the velodrome meet at a pub (can't remember which one).
Had a lie down on Clapham Common
London is FUCKING MASSIVE
Home now with a big bowl of macaroni cheese.
7:20:04 moving time with a 25.6kmph average moving speed. -

6th ride around the Isle of Wight yesterday Pifko and me .Rolling with some forum folk with plenty miles between them, good pacey day between the cake stops. We cut out the diversion and navigated an east road looking for a fabled beer festival at Havenstreet at the end, missed it so bolted back to Boringmouth. Great day out as always. After about forty miler in between work Saturday today is all about the relaxing until running club eve tonight
Happy Mondays riders
Yeah, I live in Kent, and know some of the roads, but plenty were new to me, most were scenic and it's great to follow the coast in particular. I think doing it over 2 days is probably a better idea, less brutal and an overnight stop for grub and a few beers on one of the coastal towns would make for a top weekend.
