  • Higher pressure increases the puncture risk? So 100psi is more of a risk that 10psi? I don't think so. Maybe there's an optimum.

100psi is more of a risk than 90psi.

Higher pressure mean the tyres doesn't deformed as much as it should, thus when running over glass, it have no way but dig in the tyres.

Lower pressure mean that when you run over the glass, the tyres deformed enough to reduced the risk of the glass getting embedded in the tyres.

  • Met some weirdos from the internet yesterday and got the train out to Friesing and did a super lesiurely 45 mile ride back to Munich with lots of Beer gardens (and maß) along the way.

Nice, what are the roads like to cycle in Bavaria?

  • The young brakeless fixieskidder took all the sprint points yesterday

  • Liege.

a very bizarre place is Liege. Awful memories of staying in a youth hostel there and drinking large quantities of beer just to get to sleep.

  • I've had some excellent weekends in Liege. There's a very niche porn shop just opposite the station which is always worth a visit.

  • As I'm actually racing this year rather than just riding I'm working on being a bit smarter about nutrition following some advice in the tt thread.

White powder (myprotein - go long) seems to work, got through 3 bottles with 36g of carbs, and one sis go bar on 100 miles at 30kph, and no breakfast. had a bit of a wobble at 85 miles and grabbed a Rice Krispies square from a handy shop.

I've got a more carby powder I'll try next week but I quite like this one, it kept my energy levels much more stable than my usual mix of a big breakfast, and a big slice of cake about half way.

Due to weather conditions I rode my training bike which is nearly as low at the front end, as my tt bike but given I've got a 100 mile time trial in about 4 weeks I really need to get out on it.

I've got a 160mile solo ride in a week and a half so hopefully if I can make that on the tt bike I'll be confident about getting through this tt!

  • 22.5 yesterday, 26 today. Slowly getting back after being solely running for a month or so.

Somerset hills are very different to the Chiltern hills I'm used to.

    Amazing work as usual Ed.
Why so long out of interest- isn't the IM 'just' 112?

@ 5awr, yes. Somerset hills are proper fun.

  • My reasoning is that I need to get from home to Norfolk and I need my bike there, so I can either sit in a car or cycle!

I think my biggest barrier to performance is confidence so knowing that I can ride further at will help me mentally

Also I got my one and only Kom back today...

  • home, bournemouth, west moors, work 3 hours, wimbourne, home,40 miles
    will that do?

  • 4 laps no crap at the bmx track

    1, 4, 4 in the motos

fell asleep on gate 5 in the final

    Great fun.

  • Big climbing day in Geiranger.

Have a personal target to climb Dalsnibbe in 1hr:35min which would require a 13.5kph average. Kinda missed my compact chainset on the way up. But averaged 14kph to the base of the small road to the peak........Which was under 2 meters of snow :(

Great climb but the wind coming off the high valley was ice cold and punishing.

Took some photos and headed back down to attack the steeper Ørnvegen (Eagleroad). Really missed the compact here. Struggled early on and decided to HTFU. I was so deep in the pain cave I had a little scrap with the crash barrier. Never crashed going uphill before. Was a wreck at the top. Looking at the ride on TP, it appears I climbed the whole thing for 30mins at anerobic HR.

Assume days riding. Tired and eating brioche now.

  • I'm normally a Kent lanes man. Decided that with LEJOG coming up in August, I needed to vary my routes out of sheer boredom.

I crossed the Thames and went north into Essex for a solo ride this afternoon. Big slog to get out there. Strong easterly blowing. Some nice lanes but tell me, where are the hills? 137km's and a relatively decent pace. If anyone's got any decent Essex routes plotted Ride with GPS, can you please link them here?

    Epic!

The only hills in Essex are in Hertfordshire, Surrey, or Kent.

  • ^^ yep, top work Smallfurry.

  • I went to watch the 'Giro del Trentino' on Monte Bondone. Don't know if it was the new wheels, or the other riders to chase, or the female pro rider who pedalled past me chatting to her friend, or the guys BBQing and ringing cow bells whilst shouting encouragement, but I did my best time ever up, then pedalled back to the car which I left around 6km to go to see the winning move go from Cadel Evan's group. Marvellous! Wiggins looked to be really suffering which was a shame, but Cadel was in fine form. Never really thought about it, but the pros looked to be suffering just as much, if not more than I was, which was a comforting thought, they were just going a lot faster than me :-)

    Cheers.
Pretty chuffed about the Eagle Road effort. Have a nice scar on a shifter to remember it by.

  • I did 64km this weekend. Blimey.

Usual football ride, last of the season, with a slight diversion on Saturday. I overtook at least two other cyclists on the way. (I will stop being excited about this soon!)

Then today cycled from home to Victoria park where I met Bothwell, Nigel182 and +1 and we cycled up the canal path, crossing to the River Lea and parted just by Ponders End. I then cycled through Chingford (ok, I walked up 2 hills) and Walthamstow on my way home. 40k in all.
The canal path part was slow but I sped up on the way home and really felt like I could have cycled more.

Chingford was interesting. I think I have found some hills which will help prepare me for the Hartside Pass.

  • First day of a week in Lanzarote. Did a 50 mile ride through the volcano national park. Most pleasant.

    You're getting there dude!

  • Go shoosh!

I would like to re-iterate this sentiment.

Road porn. Was it all that flat?

  • You can see the volcanoes right?

  • Road porn. Was it all that flat?

No, just over 1000m climbing in those 50 miles so not flat. Not as vertical as most of Tenerife, but definitely bumpier than my usual training ground of the Fens.

You can see the volcanoes right?

Sadly, they don't appear to build roads up and over them though. Bastards.
