First 10 of the season, hilly little course with a headwind return. 25:53 on my road bike without aerobars. Forgotten how much they hurt.

Did the Legs of Steel route yesterday. Found it hard work and was disappointingly slow round, but it was a gorgeous day to be out riding bikes nevertheless.

Intended to rack up 60 odd miles with LVCC, but got up too late. Felt a lot faster than my ride last weekend but the stats arn't that great. Coming into stratford from the Essex lanes is a depressing reminder of the poor cycling and driving in London. Lovely weather for it though.

Nice ride out to Knatts Valley.
Londoners, if you haven't been out there, do it. -

Headed out North, where there are some nice roads to be found- but you seem to have to endure a lot of fast A road's to get to them.

Amazing work all!
Very, Very Flat.
Doesn't include my detour to see Pilgrim Hospital for old time's sake, but that was quite short.
http://connect.garmin.com/activity/462150594The roads were super busy!
I went to New York (again):
And ended in Skegness:
With some fish which was the length of my TT.
I also joined strava today. -

Saturday saw me building up the Lomond Tourmalet frame that I bought off the forum a few weeks back. To my amazement, the only extra thing I had to run off to the LBS for was a new chain.
On Sunday morning I headed off from Eden Park, tweaked the gears slightly, and rolled down through West Wickham, along Layhams Road, watched the larks rising along Skid Hill Lane, admired the new raised kerb on Hesiers Road, down (fast) and up (slow) Beddlestead Lane, down Clarks Lane to the Pilgrims Way. Lots of Dulwich and Brixton riders out on the roads, all very friendly, all very sunny.
I flinched at the sight of Sundridge Hill Lane and headed round the southern fringes of Chevening, back onto the Pilgrims Way through Twitton and Otford, up the Shoreham Road (with a buzzard overhead) to Eynsford (paused for a mars bar and a can of coke from the sweet shop and sat by the Darenth) and then back along the TNRC route through Crockenhill to St Mary Cray.
I checked the time - I had a total of three hours available before I had to be back at Eden park to collect Luddlet #3 - and decided to press on through Chislehurst. Leesons Hill was a pain, but the roll down through Bickley and Bromley was fine. Got back to Eden Park with 20 minutes to spare - 37.3 miles with about 2200 feet of climbing, moving average 16mph (after taking off the 20 minutes spent watching swans at Eynsford).
The bike had performed faultlessly - there is something that rattles, but it may just be that I'm not used to listening to a derailleur, and there is a steady hooting once I reach a certain pace, which I assume is the wind resonating somewhere.
My legs, on the other hand, were feeble. I'd fitted a fairly racy cassette that gave 39x23 as the bottom gear, and I still struggled on what I knew were very mild inclines. I may have to reinstate the 12-27 cassette for the London Classic.

Rode around the E1 course & down to the Ugley club huts to watch my Eagle team mates take 1 st overall and win the team prize in the 32nd Assoc 25. Sat in the sunshine at the Shaftesbury hut with a cuppa.
Rode home via Thaxted which was a bit of a mistake as I then had the last 8/9 miles home into the quite brisk westerly wind. 55ish miles at just over 16mph moving average speed.
Lovely weather if a bit windy. Then watched Spurs lose - meh!

This little leg bender. Very tough to believe it's only just over 40 miles given how my legs feel today. Deer Creek (first climb) is a brute on 11/25.
Set off at about 10.15, finished just before 2. 1 banana and a lot of water (temps were well in the 90's)

Well that was stupid.
I had freed up time for an attempt at the Strava Grandfondo. Mainly to start prep for Styrkeprøven. Weather looked to be Cold and dry With Heavy Wind. But an aggressive storm blew in bringing epic rain, sleet, and snow.
Managed to get the first 30km done with alot of grit and determination. Nearly ended myself overcooking a right turn on a decent, and drifting on to the wrong side of the road, infront of an oncoming Merc 4x4 (rep to that driver, very switched on). Then my problem fingers on right hand froze (past rugby breakages). Which is basically game over. Did a few more km before turning back to make it at least a decent length ride. Then spent 90 mins in hell, as I slowly froze. Couldnt ride fast as my hands couldnt take the Wind chill. Couldnt go slow as I wasnt dressed for it, and started to lose core temperature. Even got hit by a short lived snow storm. I found myself dreaming of the Next Climb, when I could put in some effort and warm up. Made it home a Complete wreck.
Fighting to get my gloves off to unlock my door. I nearly bit the end of my finger off. My brain didnt register that hard thing in the glove was my finger. Spent 15 mins in absolute agony as my digits and toes defrosted, 15mins in spasms, and then eventually I was in a bath of warm water.
No harm done. But this isnt the first time I've underestimated the west coast climate. A better chioce of gloves and overshoes may of helped. But frankly, I shouldnt have been out there.
No pics. I couldnt operate my bidons let alone use a camera phone.

^You must be bloody mad, I hope the weather cheers up by the time we get there!
Today though, cracking spin with Al and RoboAlmac down to Chiddingstone for a couple of top notch bacon and egg sarnies, polished of with some lovely bara brith and other assorted baked goods.
When the sun managed to peek through it almost felt warm.

And home to spicy hotpot and pancakes. Result.

50 miles with a run afterwards in which I got a cr on a hill I train on fresh every week!
Kingston breakfast run in the morning :)
Hopefully next week I'll get a 100 in which would be a fitting way to end my time with my current road bike after 7 years and a lot of miles!

Cracking day out with Esstee and Vunugu..
The threat of showers didn't even dampen our spirits.Three things happen after split with Vunugu nr Peckham..
Bus driver nearly kills me then shouts at me at Farringdon/Clerkenwell, I wasn't in the mood for an arguement after 115km
I was in a zen-like state with my casco Robocop helmet on..
Half mile from home Garmin gets excited and sends message 'back on course'
Outside my house garmin gets really excited and says 'congratulations you won'...
Eh what like the lottery.. Surely not a race against myself.. -

What was meant to be Brighton and back ended up being a horrible ride after my Garmin deleted the planned route and we had to wing it and follow our noses. Ended up being 82miles to Brighton, train home and desperately trying to make it to 100miles before I bonked. I failed.

I went to Newport.
We didn't do any races, just timed bollocks.

40+ New forest circuit. Super sonic tail wind s.w.
Perfect timing for coffee at brock.
Then some of the coldest hail ive ever felt with the headwind..character building stuff, or something. .. -
• #6970
Yeah the hail was interesting- in fact in general I was either way too hot or freezing today, and mostly the latter.
Also have to remember to eat a proper breakfast. -
• #6971
I did the sport relief ride out of the Olympic park around Essex and back today, a really nice route and much more enjoyable than I expected, even made it home before the hail storm. Was anyone else on here taking part?

Have done this route quite often but really didn't enjoy it today. Wind kindly swung round for the journey back making my legs feel heavy topped off with some hail then rain. 2/10.

First ride, for various reasons, of 2014 today. Went out to Kent with Ada, which was nice, but she needs to brush up on her navigating...
-
• #6974
I wasn't going to post about this because I shamelessly stole a forum ride that hasn't happened yet's destination because I am greedy and wanted to go there NOW. But because I am an idiot and the venue was closed, and my route is different anyway, let's treat it as a coincidence.
I highly recommend the route, it was all stunning (or it was when I wasn't being hailed on). I would however bring some legs that are better than mine as everything hurts now.

83"track gearing feels massive after a winter of hubgears.
Couple of hours tracktime with a few efforts, beautiful day, funny really almost sad to be ending the winters seasonal running competitions for the upcoming track league.
