  • Middle of the road looneyface, lovely! :D

Literally thought of you as I did it. xxx

  • Awwwww

  • After riding around Bendigo in Western Victoria, I moved on over to Adelaide to ride the stage of the Tour Down Under. Having ridden last years Etape and London 100, I was hoping for a similar experience, it kind of was, but there was also havoc out on the roads !!! It wasn't a closed road event, we shared a freeway for the first 13ks which was uphill and then we hit the country roads. There were cars behind us, trying to overtake and cars on the other side of the road !!! The police did stop the traffic at intersections so that we would have the right of way

It was a pretty fast route, but could have been faster with closed roads. The KOM section up to Myponga dam was ok, but the views out to the coast were great. Amazingly, I did not see any accidents. I completed the ride, dragging my girlfriend as I am her dedicated domestique in 6 hours. The food at the end was pretty crappy but after an 1.5 hours rest, we headed on back into Adelaide. The total distance for the day was 239ks, pretty big effort for her to average 25kp/h for the whole day

I think I would do it again, as it was kind of fun and it beats cycling in the cold Northern winters !!!

  • viel Matsch Tratsch Feld und Forstwege und jetzt Stadt ein bier für dich wenn ich bevor tausend kilometer einen platten habe.

    What's happened to your German?

  • Anyone who can put up with more than 90 minutes in Regent's Park at the weekend must have a screw loose.

Was in there for a bit this morning with TTM - too much traffic, and too many lights and people acting like berks. It's fine before about 8am, but any later and it all starts getting too hectic.

    Coffee after was good though.

  • Club A ride today! huge group of 16 did an hour loop to get to the start which meant I hit my 130km target easily, was feeling great all day but tried not to be too much of a dick for the few people who had stepped up for the first time this year.

Running afterwards was painfull for the first mile but pretty good once both me and my dog got into our stride!

  • club ride today and for the first time in a while I wasn't the slowest person in the bunch and didn't get spat out the back at the hint of any incline. feels good mang etc. avg speed is gradually eking upwards w/my fitness too

  • Running afterwards was painfull for the first mile but pretty good once both me and my dog got into our stride!

I met a couple, with a couple of dogs and a trike each, miles from anywhere in the Cotwolds. You need one of those you do!

I also met a horse and cart, the pilot/driver had a massive hi-viz full-body poncho.

  • Ha, she didn't come with me for the bike ride!

Although maybe i need a trailer for her so she doesn't get lonely waiting for me...

  • I had a really bullshit/slow ride with slow fucking people.

Human beings are overrated I dont think I want to ride with them. There is nothing more frustrating than riding at a slower pace than your ability over distance/elevation.

What did it earn me? I labelled it a 'social ride' and other people I rode with really appreciated the efforts and the ride. and £30 including tickets.

Not pleased; would not do again.

  • Then don't

  • I think that's unfair amey. It's a forum ride. Forum rides are always fairly slow unless otherwise stated. Everyone has to start with 'long' distance somewhere and social rides are a good place to start. Do you remember The Hell of the North? You were really fucking slow, so I dropped you. If you really didn't like the pace that much, you could have dropped them and not used a group save ticket.

  • I didnt ride to brighton jake :P

  • Well I take it back. Kind of. Someone said you rode to Brighton. Sorry. Still, you shouldn't bitch about slow people when you're slow. ;-)

  • ha! I can understand different ability cyclists; I rode to oxford with non-cyclists .. "colleagues" .. sigh

  • So what were you expecting, considering the non cyclist contingent?

  • Yes - but did you enjoy / hate the tail wind / head wind / monsoon / lightening storm shinanegins?

  • Took the train out to Hemel to guide the wife and a friend around the amazeballs TNRC loop.

Said friend abandoned us at half time and I left the wife with another friend - a Hemel Native - on our return to Hemel and I started the ride home on my own.

Was rewarded by a massive soaking as a freak monsoon descended on London around 16:30. At this point I had just joined the Grand Union for the final eight miles or so of the journey, and couldn't be bothered to jacket up. A massive soaking ensued along with a first class view of the accompanying lightening. Given by this point the light was failing and so had my lights (hah! planning!) the whole thing was rather atmospheric and more than a little bit sketch.

Anyhoo 75 or so fixed miles in for the day at a very lazy pace.

However I've had cross races where my bike has arrived home in a better state.

  • LOL. I had a tea inside a house I was asked in when the monsoon hit. But the state of my bike is like you say.

I'm guessing you didn't like the company. Any ride, no matter how slow, is worth it if you like the company. If you don't, you'll probably spend all the time trying to get away from them.

  • Two and a half hours out.
Teaching a new rider how to manage her look keos and gain confidence on road.

  • I rode from hackney downs to highbury during that monsoon

  • I was riding from Screwfix back to mine with a massive heavy SDS plus drill in a gigantic box when the storm came. It didn't really fit in my rambler, it was more strapped in.

The rain I didn't mind so much but given the massive heavy box sticking out of my bag the wind was inconvenient.

  • ahh screwfix catalogue....
sounds like riding with wheels strapped to a bag ;)

  • At least you didn't have to ride back with a £34.99 conservatory
